Covid - how to help myself get better quickly/not feel so awful?

Got covid :(
what can I do to help myself? Am on sofa resting, drank lots of water, taken nurofen.

Feel atrocious.
4 vaccines but still it hits me hard.
Last time (16 months ago) I had it, it took me 8 weeks to clear the cough. My brother ended up in ICU on a ventilator with it - clearly it likes something in our dna.

Double vaccinated 15yo also suffering. Dh on the mend but it’s given him some nasty gastro symptoms. 17yo well on the mend (it came from his friend!).

anyone got any tips?

Sorry, i had it bad too despite vax and all boosters. It was horrible.

Gargling with very salty, very warm water helped. Daily shower. Soup or broth in mug. Citrus.

Do you have an electric blanket?

Thanks, I will try those things.

I don’t have an electric blanket but thanks to meno, I generally don’t feel cold.

Go to bed (to sleep, not play on your phone). Get someone to bring you cups of tea regularly but not wake you up if you’re asleep. Don’t get up until you feel better.

I've had it three times and felt hellish each time, so dread to think how bad it would have felt without being vaccinated. The last time I just decided not to fight it and let it run it's course before trying to get up and do stuff. So be good to yourself - get as much sleep as you can and rest up for as long as you need.

Hope you feel better soon.

It’s depressing that despite all the vaccines you are still suffering so much. I had it really badly a few weeks ago. I am just a bit too young for the vaccine so was thinking that was why. Still suffering with an awful cough and burning feeling in the chest. My advice would be to not try and push through. Rest and sleep, drink plenty, watch rubbish tv…

Rest, rest and then rest some more.

And when you do start getting out and about again, go really gently and continue to rest whenever you can.

I found with covid, you can't do as much as you think you can, for several weeks.

HappyHolidai · 30/12/2023 08:58

You can't really "do anything"; in fact the best thing to do is do nothing. Rest, rest, rest and then take everything extremely gently until you feel properly better.

I was off work for weeks; hope you have a better experience.
