Any DC really unwell with Covid?

My DS, age 10 is really unwell with what I think is Covid. He has been ill since Thursday and is still not looking like he will be much better tomorrow.

He had a high fever and was delirious the 2nd night. He has a very persistent cough, stomach ache, lying down all day, eating and drinking a little. He is also very anxious at bedtimes that he will become delirious again.

Calpol and ibuprofen are not doing very much. I'm taking his temperature and checking pulse and oxygen. The pulse ox monitor shows pulse high 80s and o2 high 90s and temp is not too high, about 38.

I called 111 over the weekend, when he was delirious and spoke to a nurse and then a Dr. They suggested the walk in centre if it persisted, but DS was perfectly lucid in the morning.

Has anyone else had this recently with their DC? He is DC3, so I should be well used to it by now, but usually I can see an improvement as the days go on. He is not going downhill, but no improvement since recovering from that awful 2nd night.

GP tomorrow or normal for this batch of Covid?

I thought the advice was to avoid ibuprofen with Covid? I was googling for DS the other day.

This covid has been hell tbh. DH is still quite poorly, I improved around day 6.

I thought the ibuprofen thing was debunked early on. I haven't checked recently, will have a look, thanks. Fingers crossed for day 6 tomorrow 🙏

Ugh yes :( my LO ended up admitted to hospital with it 😭😭 they said with covid it seems to be unpredictable depending on person. My LO started off with a high temperature then suddenly went hypothermic. Heating was full blast, in baby grow and 2.5 tog sleepbag and temp was still 34°

They said it can cause other infections alongside.

I would go GP if not getting better :(

Covid can be very serious and people underestimate it hugely. It is not the same thing as a cold.

Can you get a GP appointment over the phone? I'd be trying to avoid taking him out if possible as he could infect other vulnerable people and it's still under a week - it can take 2+ weeks for Covid to get better.

How's his chest and breathing? They are the main things to worry about with Covid.

GreyDuck · 20/12/2023 06:33

Good morning. I hope you had a better night. Is he drinking enough to pee normally? I wouldn't worry excessively about food as he can catch up on that.
If he's getting worse, or not drinking, I'd see Dr, but otherwise just rest and wait it out.

Virusanxiety · 20/12/2023 07:09

He slept OK, other than some coughing fits. He is drinking normally for him @GreyDuck , we have problems getting him to drink when he is well, but he is having a couple of small glasses of water and 2 or 3 very milky cups of tea.

I will see how he goes through the morning (luckily I WFH) and if he doesn't seem much better by lunchtime I will phone the GP for afternoon surgery.

I will, of course, make it clear hevis likely to be infectious and is coughing.

My dh has just had covid. It's taken about 2 weeks to stop being actively unwell. We're now in week 3 and he is recovering.

Hope your little person starts to get better.

grayhairdontcare · 20/12/2023 07:27

I am never Ill and never off work.
This is day 8 for me.
Days 3,4,5, were honestly the worst I have ever felt in my life.
But I have improved everyday and I'm definitely getting better

Vinrouge4 · 20/12/2023 07:33

I would definitely speak to the dr again if the oximeter is registering lower than 95. Just to be on the safe side. This strain is pretty awful. I’m on day 11 and still feeling crap.
