Just that really I have covid and a pulse rate of 120.

111 said to go to A&E, would you go?

If I had an accompanying high temperature I wouldn't go to A & E with a high heart rate.

MissIndecisive2023 · 14/12/2023 21:56

How did you get on @CreatingHavoc ?

TheShellBeach · 15/12/2023 10:18

Are you okay, OP?

Covidwoes · 15/12/2023 19:34

That could be caused by a fever. Take paracetamol first to see if that helps.

I hope you don't mean a blue surgical mask. FFP2/3 minimum is required to do anything to limit the spread of COVID.

I would expect the hospital to supply it in that case. How many people would have a stash of FFP2/3 masks laying around?

I do? So do a lot of my friends. If I had COVID and was walking into a hospital, you better believe I'd bring my own Aura mask to try to not give everyone in that waiting room COVID for Xmas.

As I only know one person who wore an FFP2/3 mask I very much doubt anyone else I know has them. I expect a lot of people have the blue masks around still but if hospitals etc. want people to wear masks, especially the more expensive ones, they need to supply them. Last time I went to the hospital, admittedly not A&E, no one was wearing a mask.

Your first sentence is classic mumsnet. There are plenty of people who have FFP2/3 masks, despite the fact that you seem to know nobody who ever wore them. And it's been known for pulling up on 3 years that the blue surgical masks do almost nothing to stop the spread of COVID.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/12/2023 13:33

I'm not saying there aren't plenty of people who wore them, just that I only know one. Well 2 actually as my Uncle wore one but kept it in his pocket when he wasn't wearing it so I don't think it counts.

My point is, why should people who don't have them have to pay for them? If someone wants me to wear a mask or test (if I run out, I do still have some) they can supply them. Especially as the FFP2/3 masks are a lot more expensive than others.

Archymum · 17/12/2023 13:58

Why doesn't it count if it keep one in your pocket when you aren't wearing it?

I think if you go into a hospital, or honestly anywhere, knowingly with symptomatic COVID, the least you can do as a human being who cares about the rest of the world, is wear a mask that works to limit the spread. A blue surgical mask isn't it.

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 17/12/2023 14:26

@Archymum that's all the NHS provides staff for PPE for nursing Covid positive patients.
And Covid positive staff treating patients (after a very brief period of isolation)

I hope you don't mean a blue surgical mask. FFP2/3 minimum is required to do anything to limit the spread of COVID.

That's all you get when you work directly with Covid positive patients who aren't wearing a mask.

I hope you got some answers OP and are feeling better.

Because the same mask was in his pocket for several months.

Well that should work both ways shouldn't it? Staff should be wearing them as well 🙄

Why should I have to pay for tissues? If someone wants me to use a tissue to blow my nose instead using my fingers, they can supply them. 🙄

Wasn't it a huge cost to the NHS/Government to supply the tests and masks to everyone for such a long period? Most other countries didn't do this and it seems to have created a strange kind of entitlement and stubbornness.

Melodysmum12 · 18/12/2023 20:13

But Covid positive drs don’t have to wear them!

Sunflower8848 · 18/12/2023 20:24

OP update?

CreatingHavoc · 14/01/2024 09:09

Sorry for the lack of update everyone, everything was fine. I think I just panicked when 111 told me to go. I knew I shouldn't have listened to them. The A&E Dr said they aren't medically trained and they're literally just ticking boxes on a screen and getting a result so when I said have palpitations but I often get them anyway it's obviously flagged up on screen that I need to go to A&E. I don't think 111 are fit for purpose tbh.

As for masks, I've never even heard of a ffp2/3 or whatever they are! I was 1 of 2 people in the whole of A&E wearing a mask (medical staff not wearing them either) and lots of others were coughing their faces off and clearly didn't really need to be there either :/
