Mix with other householders who also have covid or not?

Son (14) contracted covid at school, we all mingled all weekend as usual, he got very poorly very suddenly Sun night.

I immediately distanced from him, both wore masks, stopped sharing towels etc. But I knew probably futile as I likely already had it from him.

I tested positive last night.

Can we now mingle again? Online it seems to suggest not, but nothing from a reputable source that I can find.

I want to cuddle my baby again (14 year old baby) and stop having to do all the distancing, hand washing, masks. But on the other hand, we both feel awful so I don’t want to prolong our illness.

Anyone?

Of course you can. I think it's pretty silly that you've been distancing from your poorly son up to this point to be honest (unless there's a big drip feed coming)

MoorlandWanderer · 27/09/2023 12:22

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah I hear it sounds silly to you.

We've not made any attempt to distance within the household when someone tested positive. We'd already have been exposed so it seems pointless.

Runnersandtoms · 27/09/2023 12:25

Also if you already have covid you can't make it worse by mingling!!

MoorlandWanderer · 27/09/2023 12:27

Ok, I see, yeah, I’ve always distanced/masked with my lot when they’ve had it and I’ve avoided it so far. This is my first positive case for me, whereas my 3 kids have all had it twice and I’ve managed to swerve it up to now. The non-poorly ones have always all wanted to go to their Dad’s to avoid it. I suppose we’re an avoidant family, so we’re different to you in that way.

Your own child got “very poorly very suddenly” and your instinct was not to comfort, cuddle and take care of him?

tonystarksrighthand · 27/09/2023 13:03

Your poor son.

MoorlandWanderer · 27/09/2023 13:04

Yep - that was my instinct but my brain over rode it. Like it did in lockdown. Instinct said go outside, government said don’t go outside. I’m still fighting my instincts on this.

Anyway you’ll all be pleased to know I’ve weighed it all up and decided to move out of 2020 thinking and into 2023 thinking and given him the worlds biggest cuddle. I didn’t stop holding him until he pulled away. Felt lovely. So we’re on! I have entered 2023. 😂

Of course it’s fine, distancing, masks etc are pointless if you’ve already been mixing prior to positive test. Just think how you’d act if he was ill generally? I think it’s mad how people are still obsessed with Covid. It’s now an endemic illness like flu or common cold and no one makes a fuss about those

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 27/09/2023 13:10

I find it odd that the least 'obsessed' keep coming on to the covid threads and minimising covid.

Hope you all feel better soon OP.

Floribundum · 27/09/2023 13:19

There's no point in distancing or handwashing now really, but I would personally still ventilate the house well. Rightly or wrongly I'd be thinking your son is further ahead in getting better and breathing in fresher air has got to be better for him.

TinaYouFatLard · 27/09/2023 14:33

Brilliant OP! Enjoy your cuddles.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/09/2023 19:50

Of course if you're both positive.

You can't think of any reasons why that might be? None?
