Immunosuppressed and looking to book a covid booster

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 11/09/2023 16:13

Hello, covid corner folks.

I'm immunosuppressed; my GP surgery confirm I'm eligible for an autumn booster, but say they are not running a vaccine clinic at the surgery this time. I've been told "you'll be able to book online from 11th September for a date from 18th".

But when I go to the Covid vaccination booking page there is seemingly no way to book: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-vaccination/getting-a-covid-19-vaccine/

Does anyone have any more information? Am I on the wrong site, or are they just slow to open?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

We haven’t had confirmation for the date of our vaccine delivery yet. Maybe your surgery is still waiting too. It’s been a nightmare.

mynameiscalypso · 11/09/2023 16:21

This page suggests that the service isn't open yet:

dementedpixie · 11/09/2023 16:23

Looks like its not available to book just yet
It suggests the nhs will contact you when it's available

I’ve been Contacted by my surgery to book my flu jab and it says on the text message that if I am entitled to a covid booster then it will be administered after. They seem to be keeping it very close to their chest over who is and isn’t entitled compared to previous rounds.

Free FLU vaccination appointments
are now available for eligible Under 65's on * September 23. If you are eligible for a Covid booster we will offer it at the same appointment, Please book online using the MYGP or NHS apps .

Throwncrumbs · 11/09/2023 16:26

My GP surgery has told me you can’t book until the 2nd of October as that’s when it becomes available. Hope that helps, I’m waiting to book myself. The flu jabs are available now.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 11/09/2023 16:27

Thanks, everybody, this is what I thought, but I wondered if I was missing something/ looking in the wrong place.

PrivatePercy I got the impression the surgery staff were quite stressed and clueless about it this time, unlike with all my previous jabs when they've been on the ball. (This will be number 8 for me!) It seems communication hasn't been great.

Aha! Lots of confusion, it seems. Yes, my flu jab (at the surgery) is booked for this coming weekend.

In my area we are starting covid boosters from this week but first priority group is care homes, we haven't started inviting immunosuppressed patients yet but they will get invites shortly. Original plan was to start covid and flu together in October but it got brought forward at short notice to this week. Its been a lot of work to bring it all forward at short notice so I'm sure some areas will not be ready to start yet.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 13/09/2023 14:39

Just an update that I was contacted by my surgery today about the Covid booster and have been able to book one for next Friday. The local Mosque is acting as the vaccine centre for all the GP surgeries in the town.

I hope everyone else who is waiting to hear is invited soon. 🙂

so you having them separately? I couldn’t be bothered having to go to separate appointments. I just got a text saying as a health and social care worker I can get mine so book but I can book for one central hub and get both at the same time if that’s my preference. I can’t be arsed with the sore arms however I work frontline so I will go Just trying to decide when is best to book. Glad you got sorted op.

CMOTDibbler · 13/09/2023 14:45

I got my booking link text yesterday for my flu and covid vaccinations - first available date is October 21st, but at least its booked in and I can do it all in one go

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 13/09/2023 14:57

I usually react badly to vaccines so I’m glad I’m having them separately!

In any case, for some reason, they aren’t being offered at the same place where I am, so I couldn’t have both together. Flu jab is in the surgery; Covid booster at the mosque vax hub. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm in Scotland and got my flu vaccine yesterday. It's being offered to age 50+ and this is my 1st one (will be 50 in November). I was offered the covid vaccine if I was frontline staff or a carer but I'm neither of those.

INeedNewShoes · 13/09/2023 15:04

I'm in the same boat and also get the 'can't book' thing on the website. I assume that there's an order, something like: Over 75s first then immunocompromised.

AutumnCrow · 13/09/2023 15:13

I'll be following this thread.

I got left off the spring covid booster list for reasons no-one can explain, so I need this one, but have similarly found that I can't book it online.

Also need the flu jab that I haven't heard a peep about yet.

I'm also eligible for the Shingrix (shingles) jab which is now available on the NHS for immunue-suppressed people aged 50 years and over. But can I get anything booked or any information? Can I fuck.

<sigh>

SolemnlySwear2010 · 17/09/2023 20:54

I got a letter re my jabs a few weeks ago and got them both yesterday - feel like I have been run over by a truck today, but hoping it passes quickly

JerryLovesMargo · 18/09/2023 07:15

Just tried to book mine and it's still showing the same message. I'm definitely eligible (I've had all 7 so far) and the BBC news app says those who are eligible can book online, but there's no way to do so.

Anyone else having the same issue?

OneFrenchEgg · 18/09/2023 07:18

I had a text as did my son about a month ago and have mine booked for this weekend as does he. I'm a carer. Sounds like we are ahead of the game here? South west?

JerryLovesMargo · 18/09/2023 07:19

I've never had a text for any of mine previously, is this a new thing?

JerryLovesMargo · 18/09/2023 07:20

DD works in a send school and is officially recorded as being in frontline care and is also definitely eligible. No text or way to book for her, either.

JerryLovesMargo · 18/09/2023 08:31

Never mind, online booking just opened and I've booked for me, DD and DH. Phew!

AutumnCrow · 18/09/2023 10:50

Hurrah!

I tried (and failed) just after midnight, so thank you for the news that it has now opened up this morning. I've just looked and there are lots of available appointments in my area.

Now I just have to find out when DP is free to take me (I'm housebound at the moment what with one arthritic thing and another).

ShadyPaws · 20/09/2023 15:04

I've just had mine and my flu vaccine
The nice steward said I could queue virtually or skip the queue as there was about 50 people and being neutropenic I try to avoid hanging around for ages in groups like that
Straight in, done and back out

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 23/09/2023 01:15

I got jabbed yesterday. It was super well organised at the Mosque. Lots of space and no waiting around. Had a Pfizer which always hits me less hard than Moderna.

I hope everyone else who was struggling to find out information/ book an appointment is sorted.
