Loss of smell

Hi
On day 9 of Covid - relatively mild infection but on day 5 my sense of smell started to diminish and completely disappeared Day 6. It's the strangest thing and quite distressing

How long before I can expect it to come back ? I have searched previous posts but some of them are quite old - looking for some current stories . I do have some weird sinus congestion going on - I sound very nasal , though I am able to breath through my nose .

Hoping for positive stories - feeling so down about not be able to smell and food tasting like cardboard !

Tia

Mine went when I had covid a few weeks ago too. Had no sense of smell at all for about 3/4 days and then started coming back. Took about a week to be fully back to normal.

😊, thanks - that's helpful to know . Feeling a bit panicky about it all and it's good to hear something positive !

Hi @sinusincrisis .. sorry for resurrecting your old thread, but I wanted to know if your sense of smell came back ok ? I’m on day 5 of having no sense of smell and as you say, it’s actually quite distressing.

@Figment1982
Did yours come back?

Figment1982 · 06/09/2023 11:53

Hi @BodenCardiganNot , yes it did. It's not fully back yet but I would say at about 80% (today is 3 weeks post first Covid symptoms and 2.5 weeks since I lost my sense of smell and taste). It was a very gradual return which started about 10 days after losing it.

That's great to hear! Thank you!
