Why have i got covid again so badly?

I first had covid in 2021. I wasnt poorly at all, slight cough but that was it. Me and the kids had it and we were all fine. We followed whatever rules there were at the time and it went away. I also got vaccinated.

Now for the last 4 days i have been very unwell with a bad hacking cough, rattling chest, lethargy and a painful chest like I've pulled a load of muscles. I know we aren't really testing anymore but i had some tests left over from last year in a cupboard so i did one today and its positive.

I am currently lay on the settee, i can barely move i am breathless and have no energy to get up at all. I've ordered uber eats for the kids lunch because i just can't move to the kitchen to make them something.
Why has it come back so differently when I've had it before and should have built immunity? How long will it likely last? I don't think i can take the kids to school tomorrow feeling like this.

I'm exactly the same. I had it a year ago and barely noticed it. This time I feel so weak and ill.

Because natural immunity doesn't last forever and like the flu and common colds it's constantly changing so your not immune to this version.

Immunity doesn’t last - they don’t tell you that bit. Same with the vaccines. Also there’s some evidence that getting covid multiple times is bad for the immune system, so make sure you take care once you’re all better.
