Does this sound like the Covid you have?

Started with constant sneezing then a lot of congestion and runny nose. Typical cold. But Day 3 I had a one-off bout of awful diarrhea. As I was spraying bleach everywhere in the bathroom in case it was the start of a sickness bug, I realised I couldn't smell it. Last time I used that cleaning product I could barely breathe after a couple of sprays as I found the smell so strong.
Cold symptoms have now eased, but still can't really smell or taste anything. I also have a neck and headache on one side every day in the afternoon/evening.

Does that sound like common symptoms for the current variant? I've not had a temperature or anything. I also am out of tests, hence the question.

I’m lying awake with my third bout of covid this year and the one sided neck pain has been the constant symptom in each infection. It’s awful - it’s like you’ve been sleeping in the wrong position but is also a headache if that makes sense.
It’s the most bizarre symptom but this time around I knew it was covid before I tested because if this pain.

whatever you have OP I hope you feel better soon.

Take a test?

Lack of taste/ smell sounds like covid.
Saying that, if your bunged up, could be that.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/12/2022 07:48

My children have just had it. They felt rough and a slight fever one day which I didn’t take much notice of other they wanted a day off school. It was when they both started complaining of not being able to smell and taste I pulled out our last test from when they were given free. Yep, was Covid!

Ive not been feeling great this week with cold symptoms and a nasty headache and tiredness that felt similar to when I had Covid in July but test was negative.

Whatnextarghhhhhh · 17/12/2022 07:51

I completely lost all sense of smell. As in nose in a jar of coffee and couldn’t smell a thing. But also had fever, aches, sore throat, congestion and cough. The lack of smell was the last symptom (or the last I noticed, anyway).

Ohhh interesting @FlossMeg I have definitely never had this neck symptom before, its so peculiar! I hope you feel better soon, you must be so fed up after the third time!

@neveradullmoment99 that's it really, I've lost my sense of smell before when really bunged up, but I've kind of not been bunged up enough for that, yet the sense of smell and taste has disproportionately been affected and completely disappeared

@Tumbleweed101 DD had a slight fever and runny nose a few days before I started and I didn't take much notice of it. She's too little to tell me if she can smell/taste. Last time the whole household had it, I was the only one to test negative on home tests, but did test positive on a PCR so it's quite possible you have it too. Hope everyone feels better!

Take a test?

OP has stated that she is 'out of tests'. It's in the last sentence of the post you quoted.

DS1 had it recently and his worst symptom was a one sided headache with lightheadedness. His cold symptoms subsided fairly quickly, but the headache persisted for a few days.

Thanks @HeatwaveToNightshade it did make me wonder if there was an easy way to go out and get a test which I wasn't aware of 😀

Thinking about it DS has also been saying he has a headache. Ah, the joys of winter germs! it would just be the last of many we've had the last couple of months.

I had a similar cold with loss of smell and taste, have never experienced that with any other cold, but covid test was negative. So maybe just a new type of cold!

I had a very bad cold a few years ago and lost my sense of smell for about three weeks. I was really down about it and kept sniffing at everything to see if I could get a sense of it! I honestly almost cried when I smelt my mint shower gel again😅 Talk about sucking the joy out of life.

upfucked · 17/12/2022 08:40

It could be covid but the symptoms are the same as cold viruses. It’s impossible to say without a test. Either way you should Be sensible and try to avoid people until you are feeling better.

ThaiDye · 17/12/2022 09:10

Sounds like COVID, I loss my sense of smell for 36 hours, was congested for 2 days. Lots of people reporting gastro symptoms with the new variants.

FlossMeg · 17/12/2022 11:20

I will say though to those with negative tests - I’m negative on the nhs ones I had from ages ago but
positive on the flowfkex

ThaiDye · 17/12/2022 11:34

Also my MiL had a sore neck for the two days before testing positive.

Good idea to swab your throat as well as a nostril when you do a test.

jmcg2015 · 17/12/2022 21:47

Smell came back for me after a few days, but yeah I did and still do continue to have the odd headache and I had neck pain at one point
