Deafness After Covid

A friend has gone deaf in one ear after Covod infection. Specialist says it's permanent loss. Sudden deafness is meant to be a rare complication of Covid, but another two friends in their late 30s have also developed hearing problems. Is deafness a common complication? Or is this just an unusual cluster?

Had covid in June and my ears keep getting pressurised like I’m flying or been underwater - I just clear them and carry on but now I’m concerned !

I know someone who has lost her hearing after a covid vaccine! It was coming and going and totally deaf to some hearing. It was going from one ear to the other weirdly.

She got steroid drops from the gp and after three weeks her hearing has come back as though none of this happened!

That's very interesting.

Hopefully nothing to worry about if they clear.

Awful tinnitus after the AZ covid vaccine. Has affected my hearing a lot. Confirmed by consultant that it was caused by vaccine. I had Pfizer for future vaccines

I've had this for months in one ear since covid, but can't clear it. Every week/ten days or so, it randomly pops for a few hours!

I’ve had tinnitus since Covid in September this year. It’s pretty loud so although it’s not hearing loss per se it is annoying interference.

Just found this old thread. I'm currently deaf in one ear following covid which turned into sinusitis. It's still not back and its coming into the 3rd week. I have been prescribed antibiotics which are causing nasty side effects. I just have this dread that its permanent. My DF had the same thing in the same ear when he was younger, although it wasn't covid back then. Has anyone got any reassuring stories they can share? I'm terrified and can't stop crying 😢
Thanks

what was your outcome @BooseysMom ? I’m experiencing something very similar and I’d terrified it’s going to be a permanent loss of hearing . Can’t stop crying / can’t eat. Hoping you’re ok now xx

I'd forgotten all about this thread! Well I eventually got my hearing back but it wasn't down to the antibiotics. I can't remember what happened now but it definitely did take weeks to fully recover. It was like glue ear and I know how you feel, it's really scary cos you think you'll be permanently deaf. In the end the doctor said it was viral and that was why the antibiotics didn't do anything. I just had to wait it out. It was a great relief when it cleared..so rest assured it will come back!
