Returned from cruise and started to feel unwell (tired/achey) the day before disembarking but put it down to poor sleep the night before.

Developed dry cough on return and extruciating headache, so i did test - faint positive. Cough got worst for 48hrs but now virtually gone, slight background headache and the
occasional feeling like i want to throw up (small amount of mucus).

So, its now Day 5, tested today and red line is brighter, sneezed quite a bit today....

I don't feel really unwell, just not sure what to expect ..I've taken it easy, slept alot, but i have a fairly full work diary from Tuesday onwards so should i cancel and continue to rest to ensure i completely recover even if i test negative on Monday? Im 62 and i haven't had the Autumn booster. I've read posts where people go down hill from day 5.

hello, sorry you’re unwell. I would definitely cancel those work commitments this week. You’re being very sensible here in thinking your need that rest! With the latest variants it’s unlikely you’ll ‘go downhill’ but rest is crucial.

Ive had Covid twice and long Covid from the first time for a long time. Better now but with round 2 I was knocked out for about 10 days. It was as you have described for 5 days then just full on exhaustion mainly. But then after about day 10 I felt not too bad again and could work. Same vaccination status as you. Rest is really important in Covid recovery to avoid lingering effects I think!

Thanks for replying, not having had covid before, i didn't know what to expect. The good news is my test today looks to be negative (if i squint there maybe a very very faint trace of a line)....but i am going to be sensible and take it easy next few days ...see how i feel on Wednesday.

DH and I had it about a month ago, we are 62 and 64, both of us had temperature, sore throat and headache for about 3 - 4 days, I got it first and DH about 3-4 days later, my positive was much pinker than DHs but he was slightly worse than me. We felt much better about day 5 and 6 and after that we were well recovered and carried on as usual, hope yours will be like ours and you will be better in a few days. It was about a week in all.
