Now testing negative but feeling worse

I am on day 7 from symptoms starting (day 5 from positive test) and last couple of days feeling much better. Today I woke up feeling worse- cough is back, generally feel far more bunged up and sinuses painful. Did a test and it is negative. But I don’t feel well, and worse that I have done in last two days. Someone on another thread mentioned that the progression of symptoms in Covid (or this variant at least) doesn’t seem to be linear - now I understand what they mean. Have rarely felt better then worse again when ill. Anyone else getting this?

I'm the same today. I started feeling ill on Monday, tested positive on Tuesday, was in bed for Tuesday and Wednesday and then very gradually started to improve. I was hoping to go back to work tomorrow but I feel dreadful today. My head feels like it is in a vice, my sinuses are congested and painful and I feel really sick, weak and dizzy.

Minesababycham · 09/10/2022 11:22

Could be that you have a secondary infection? I’ve heard of quite a few people who get covid and then develop a chest infection or ear infection or whatever - could be a sinus infection.

Minesababycham · 09/10/2022 11:24

Would also say that it took me a good 10 days before the symptoms didn’t go back and forth - definitely not a linear bug!

Wehadabetamax · 09/10/2022 11:24

To add to my post this is my first time with covid and I am still testing positive.

Crikey - this is exactly the same timeline as me.

Woke up feeling pretty awful today and I thought I’d be back at work tomorrow.Sad

Good to hear im not the only one! Yes I think being mindful of it developing into something else is right. It really is the gift that keeps on giving! I’m going to take some ibuprofen cold & flu and Sudofed nasal spray and try to nip it in the bud. With the cough - it feels wrong hacking away around people even if Covid negative now. I will probably just wear a mask for the next few days as who knows how reliable these LFTs are anyway.

DS tested positive last Tuesday, he’s been more or less in bed since that time. Thought there was a slight improvement yesterday but then he said he felt rubbish throughout the night, shivering and his throat feels sore again this morning and he’s still really bunged up, said his left hand nostril feels like a ‘burning smell’ if that makes sense, so could all be in his sinuses now.

School had said he could return to school after day 5 of testing positive but I really don’t think he’ll be well enough to go back tomorrow.

This is his first time (as far as we’re aware) of him catching Covid.

DoubleShotEspresso · 09/10/2022 14:32

Actually yes. I tested positive last Sunday, tested negative yesterday but actually feel far worse the last three days than I have throughout. And this pesky headache I've had almost 2 weeks and it's not shifting!

GoldenHue · 09/10/2022 15:17

DS just has a very feint line now but he still feels rubbish.

Myfavouritemug · 09/10/2022 15:26

I am the same. Tested positive last Wednesday. Was feeling quite a bit better yesterday , woke up this morning and thought it was on its way out, had a shower and then struggle to get dry, ended up in bed, fell asleep, woke up an hour later and tbh can’t function much at all.

im taking the Sudafed congestion tablets and they have been really good (headache and sore throat). Just downed a vitamin C tablet with zinc (drink) as I’ve heard that’s good.

Am really miffed, I’ve barely been out for two years and we get it.

foxlover47 · 09/10/2022 15:40

I only tested today , same as you managed to avoid it all that time so feel gutted

I've just recovered from covid and was very much similar to you. I didn't test negative until day 10 but I was still on sick leave until day 17. I'm currently day 19 and still have a sore throat, exhaustion and achy. Even my 2 year old seems to have some ongoing fatigue and runny nose and he's on the same timeline as me, we had it in Dec 2020 and it was nothing like this.

Lovesabadboy · 12/10/2022 20:03

Quite glad to read this as thought it was just us.
DH tested positive last Monday, followed by me on Tuesday. Our symptoms haven't been too bad...sore throat, productive cough, aches, fatigue, but didn't have to take to our beds or anything. Started to feel a bit better over the weekend and tested negative last night. Today, though, I have felt pretty rough again...coughing again, and now I have the headache (DH had that last week, but I didn't) , sinus pain and hissing ears...oh and feeling nauseous.
I suppose we just have to wait for it to totally leave our systems, but I just want to feel better as we are going away for the weekend and, although negative, this could still spoil it for us!

punnetofcherries · 07/12/2023 12:01

Resurrecting this post so I hope no one minds!
Currently on day 4 of covid....day one tested positive with slight throat tickle, and bunged up sinuses.
Days 2,3 and 4 tested negative but as each day goes by I'm feeling worse and worse.

My DP bought some new tests for me so they're not out of date and I've done the swabs properly.

Is there anyone out there who's been the same?

sleepyscientist · 07/12/2023 12:28

I tested negative quite quickly (think day 1 of test was actually about day 8) but still chesty and sneezing a month on. It does seem to finally be getting better, I do wonder if I had COVID quickly followed by a cold. I don't feel unwell now just post viral fatigue.

SpringPen · 11/12/2023 19:57

@punnetofcherries out of interest, what is the brand of test your DH bought? I currently have COVID and still have symptoms, though improving. I took two different tests this morning, because the first one I took was so faint as to almost be imperceptible and I didn't think this was representative, so took a different test brand, which came up immediately and clearly pink.

Oh gosh how interesting. I'm actually out now but will look when I get home. It was bought in Boots.
I'm still feeling absolutely shit although tests for last few days have been negative.
I've got sinus problems, sore throat (although that has dissipated somewhat) and a permanent headache....I just don't feel well.
