Runny nose after nostril swab

Hi all

I have done more nostrils than I wish to, on my 9 year old. Did one yesterday and his eyes watered and afterwards he had a really stuffy and runny nose. It's ok this morning.

Has anyone else had this?

Why are you repeatedly testing your child?

ChateauMargaux · 11/07/2022 07:17

Yes.. my 13 year old who is sensitive to a lot of things has quite an extreme reaction to the nasal swabs... red eyes, sneezing and excessive mucus production immediately after the swab and the symptoms persist... last summer I thought he had hayfever until I saw his immediate reaction and connected the two. We look for saliva tests if we can.

@ChateauMargaux Thanks. It has made his eyes water before this but this time one was a little swollen and he said itched, so maybe rubbed it excessively.

@dementedpixie I am not, I have meant over the past two years. The schools were requiring a weekly one for a while, when they first all went back...

The worst one was where the poor kid had to have two in one day. Parental error!!

Everyone need to stop putting sticks up their damn noses. It is not healthy to do it! But it seems common sense is not common anymore!
My doctor told me at a young age to never stick anything in my nostrils as it is dangerous. As I got older I realised that was just common sense not to do it. WTF is wrong with people?

As long as the end of the swab doesn't break off and get stuck up my nostril, I don't see what's dangerous? The swab isn't sharp so can't damage your nostril. And even if it broke off, I'm still not sure it's dangerous, I survived having a frozen pea stuck up my nose as a child, with no ill effects.
