When does the taste and smell come back

I am on day 6 of this infection. First time having covid. I am fully vaccinated.

The main symptoms for me were fever and body aches.

Then on Wednesday a yogurt i ate was bland. I was able to taste 'sweet' from the tub but that was it.

On Thursday I discovered some medicine tasting off. Then I wasn't able to get other tastes from foods. Cheese was like rubber. Coffee was like warm sweetness. A cup of tea might as well have been a cup of warm sugary piss. It was horrifying.

My smell is gone too.

This is by far the most distressing thing for me.

When does it come back?

Also nearly 10 days in mine isn’t completely back but I’d say 85% and weirdly when I’m tired that smoky phantom smell comes back for a bit and my smell reduces. But that is slowly improving too.

@RoxieLoxy Thats what I did and I started to get what I’d describe as ‘notes’ of the smell back slowly and then it was like turning a volume switch up the more I did it, there was a bit of back and forth for anyone reading I.e one day it was just completely gone again or gone for part of the day.

Sitting in fresh air seems to help, somewhere where you can smell greenery or flowers.

Whether I was outside it seemed to reduce the foul smoky smell I had.

That's really interesting and glad that's worked for you. I spend a lot of time outside so fingers crossed I'll get something soon.

@WotNoLoobrush Hope so, worth a try.

My smell disappeared for about three days.
It is flagged as a 'minor' symptom but it is distressing.
For a couple of days beforehand, everything smelt bad - best way to describe it would be a mixture of egg and fish. Yuk!!! Then no smell and now it's back.
I currently have a persistent taste of salt in my mouth.
Really like eaten a tablespoon of salt but can still taste foods OK.
May I wish a speedy recovery to all.
Even a 'mild' case is damned unpleasant.

Day 10 now and I don't see how it can get worse now thankfully.

Mine is thankfully starting to return on day 6. Not back completely and I didn't lose everything taste wise but smell went completely on day 3. I agree it has been a distressing symptom as it makes you feel very disconnected from the world.

I've been doing regular smell testing since the day it disappeared. Have been smelling eucalyptus, rose and citrus scents with little sniffs each time. Lots of fresh air as recommended above. No idea whether this has helped but am truly grateful to have it coming back 🙏

Mine's been gone a week and there is no sign of it coming back but early days. Bloody hell though it doesn't half help with weight loss for a greedy guts like me. I've lost 2kg in a bit more than a week. If it carried on for another couple of months maybe that wouldn't be so bad and I wouldn't be so fat!

Mine smell and tastes has been completely gone since Saturday. It's scary. I'm trying Not to Google x

Taste returned after about a week basically straight back to normal, except nearly a year on some foods have a distinctive unpleasant "undertone" and you don't realize until you've taken a bite. Most days pizza tastes great, other days it has this weird taste, we call it's the covid taste 🙄 Annoying!

Smell took a lot longer!!! Months before I could smell anything at all, and even now everything smells mild. I no longer walk into a room and catch any wafts, I have to sniff close to get scented candles, perfume, diffusers, cooking! Really sad actually and have given up hope of it returning to normal.

DH is virtually the same. Strange as we had covid mildly!!
