Fully vaccinated and lost taste and smell

SummersBreeze · 08/07/2022 00:24

I am fully vaccinated. I had 4 Pfizer shots altogether with a booster in November and another booster in February.

I have covid now. I am on day 4. I came down with fever on Monday. This was the main symptom. Fever on and off. Today I am fever free. Does this mean I am on the mend now or will it come back to me tomorrow?

I noticed last night my taste was off. I was eating a yogurt. I yogurt was an apricot flavour but it was very bland. I was able to taste sweet but that was it.

The same thing happened over today. I lot of my food was bland with not taste. I was able to feel the textures of food but that was it.

I had a shower tonight and I washed my hair and I noticed I couldn't smell my shampoo and conditioner. I then used more products in my hair - heat protection which I couldn't smell. I then decided to try perfume on me but I couldn't smell my perfume.

Is anyone else loosing their smell and taste even after being vaccinated?

Does it come back?

I will be going to bed soon with several different types of perfumes and male colognes on me and I can't smell any of it.

Double vaccinated and boosted
I had Covid about 3 weeks ago, I still can't taste sweet things - fruit is just bleurgh !
My sense of smell is fine though

Yup, three vaccines, lost smell for a few days and taste for a couple of weeks (although could still taste salty and sweet). It's quite normal.

SummersBreeze · 08/07/2022 13:11

Thank you for your reply and all of the replies.

Yesterday was day 4 for me. I am the same way with sweet and salty. I haven't tried sour.

I am finding the loss of taste very distressing. I can't even enjoy a fucking cup of coffee in isolation.

I am hoping it will come back soon. I am thinking about shocking my mouth by taking toothpaste in my mouth and then swirling it around and then eating an orange to see if it helps.

Fuck those odds of 17%. That's something I do no want.

How long are you with your covid? Is your taste and smell still gone?

Me too. I’m day 3 (tested positive Tuesday) and today me taste and smell are much diminished. I could taste an extra strong mint was sweet but that was it. Hope it comes back soon 🤞

I have a beautiful floral scented heat protected for my hair. I had a shower last night and I couldn't smell any of my shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, heat protection, perfume - nothing.

The loss of smell isn't too bad for me for now.

It's the loss of taste that I had. I can feel the textures of food but that's it. Cheese is like rubber.

I think I am going to try and experiment. I will report back soon.

I'm on Day 9. I have no sense of smell, and like others can only taste sweet, sour etc.
I think over the course of the illness I've had all of the symptoms except vomiting. I'm still feeling really tired and need a sit down after doing a bit of washing up!

Buzzinwithbez · 08/07/2022 13:28

I didn't have any vaccines and lost smell but not taste. I think a good b complex helped regain it.

inthisworld · 08/07/2022 13:29

I think it really is different for everyone and different each time it's so strange! I'm not vaccinated and had covid twice, both times have been very mild but I did lose my smell for a few weeks the first time. Second time I didn't lose anything, I hope your senses come back soon x

eleanorwish · 08/07/2022 13:47

I forgot to mention, I'm triple vaccinated.

I've just sprayed myself with perfume and I can smell it a little bit. I think my sense of smell is slowly returning as last time I tried, a few days ago, I couldn't smell it at all.

The poor pets were absolutely assaulted with smells last night. Their poor noses.

Lucky you, its returning. Fingers crossed for you.

Vaccines were never designed to avoid the common symptoms of covid. Some people lose taste/smell, some don’t. Vaccination status entirely irrelevant

PinkButtercups · 08/07/2022 14:18

Being vaccinated is irrelevant.

Some people lose their sense of smell/taste and others don't.

Cross post with this one.

I'm fully vaccinated. Lost taste and smell completely for two weeks with my covid but then they both gradually came back, with some slight weirdness/distortions. Six months on, I can still only drink one brand of tea, as all others taste cabbagey, and I am much more sensitive to chemical-type smells in things like washing powder and soap.

lady725516 · 08/07/2022 15:20

Had covid bad last year, lost taste and smell completely. Now my taste is altered, lots of foods and drinks I can't have anymore. It's been 9 months now, I'm hoping one day it will go back to normal

DillonPanthersFNL · 08/07/2022 15:29

It's a neurological issue so saline washes won't work, you just need to wait it out. Most patients we see get their senses back within 5 months

ItWillBeOkHonestly · 08/07/2022 15:35

For those who've lost their smell, try 'smell training'. It worked for me and the NHS advises it too. Get two bottles of (differently scented) essential oils and a couple of days hold one nostril closed and inhale with the other. Then switch over and repeat.

I found it was a bonus when emptying the food waste bin!

SilverGlassHare · 08/07/2022 18:57

I lost mine when I had Covid at the end of last year even though I was fully vaccinated. It took about a month for my sense of smell to return to about 80-90%, and now, 7 months later, I’d say it’s probably all the way back. My sense of taste took longer and even now it doesn’t feel completely back to normal - same things don’t taste as strong or taste slightly different.

Mumzoo5070 · 08/07/2022 18:57

ocs30 it is so odd isn't it :)

SummersBreeze · 08/07/2022 19:54

This no taste and smell thing is cock and fucking bull.
