If your looking after the vulnerable aren’t you entitled to free tests then?

Bramshott · 05/07/2022 08:28

Surely people are still testing precisely so they DON'T have to stay at home with every cold or viral infection??

Not sure if your comment is to me or the Op? If it is to me, no we don't get free tests.

LEnferCestLesAutres · 05/07/2022 08:53

I just ordered 50 Flowflex from Medisave - worked out at £1.32 each.

Why is it okay to go and infect people with another virus than covid?

maryleboneym · 05/07/2022 08:57

All those unnecessary pieces of plastic!!! Stop buying them

Dancinginthedark01 · 05/07/2022 08:59

It’s not unnecessary if they stop me asymptomatically passing covid on to my friend undergoing chemo.

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2022 09:03

I really wish the people who gave chosen not to test would just leave the rest of us alone. Every thread goes like this.

It really doesn’t take a lot of imagination to think of reasons why someone might reasonably want to pay for a covid test, especially when there’s rising cases again.

GerryAtrick · 05/07/2022 09:09

It's a belief system now, with it's own rituals and ceremonies and indisputable dogma. Most of the followers are moaning about the price of milk going up and yet, they are scrabbling round trying to find test kits to buy.

The most fervent of them would probably spend their last fiver on testing kits rather than food.

What a load of rubbish

Yes, some people with health anxiety have struggled with this sort of thing

Everyone I know who is still testing is doing it for the benefit of their particularly vulnerable friends or relatives

If you were planning to meet a ten year old who has just had a bone marrow transplant and is only just starting to see people after months of isolation, wouldn’t you want to reduce your risk of giving them covid?

Bramshott · 05/07/2022 09:21

@everythingssogrey well yes, that's a good point, but in general we go to school and work with a cold and it would take quite a societal shift to stop doing that!

HelloMist · 05/07/2022 13:02

I had enough points on my Boots card to pay for a box of them (flowflex).

motogirl · 05/07/2022 13:14

I'm only testing if I feel ill or are needing to go into a high risk situation like visiting a care home for work - the home gave me a box of tests

LIZS · 05/07/2022 13:19

Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds. You can click n collect if needs be.

Sooverthisnow · 05/07/2022 13:20

So to those who are taking extra precautions with Covid. Are you doing the same for heavy colds/flu type viruses that make you feel ill but aren’t Covid? Are you staying away protect the vulnerable? Because the outcome is the same with regardless of the cause - you keep away. The only difference is that for one you have a piece of plastic telling you it’s Covid, and the other is you don’t.
I agree it’s become like a religion now with the ceremony of testing.

Sooverthisnow · 05/07/2022 13:21

I would agree with the carehome thing though- testing is required and government mandated, but the rest?

Icequeen01 · 05/07/2022 07:08

I don't give a damn what "they" say about testing. I work in a tiny residential SEN school. Who looks after the kids if all the staff are ill? I am currently testing daily as my DH has Covid and I don't want it to take it into school.

Nice to hear someone thinking of others. Hope your dh gets better soon.

Yes, I have always been careful with heavy colds around family members and friends who are vulnerable.

There isn’t a readily available test for flu. If there were and there were high cases in the community, I would test before meeting highly vulnerable individuals. It’s as if some posters have forgotten those people exist.

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2022 13:26

And I already would have avoided seeing them if felt unwell.

PurpleDaisies · 05/07/2022 13:28

@Sooverthisnow what would you say to a good friend who is having chemo/their daughter has had a recent bone marrow transplant/is in their 90s and asks you to test before meeting indoors? These people are genuinely at increased risk of they catch covid according to their doctors.

HonestTrotter · 05/07/2022 15:10

I do know people, however, who are ordering the free ones by lying about why they need them.

Shouldn't consort with liars and thieves then, mate

No , pre pandemic you would be sensible and not visit if you had a sore throat or felt under the weather. They’re not forgotten, it’s about being mindful of any illness.
