Any severe asthmatics had mild Covid symptoms?

From what I've read, the new variant seems to be targeting the lungs which is not exactly music to my ears as a severe asthmatic.
Is there any asthmatics here that have recently had a bout of Covid and felt surprisingly ok'ish?

Me. Tested positive 4th May. Negative tests since 8th May. I appear to be getting chest infection after chest infection. Totally breathless and no inhalers are working. I feel like I'm going to drown. It has also sent my heart haywire and my resting pulse is 127 last time I checked! O2 levels 98 to 99%. Chest xrays are clear though? It has floored me. I'm triple vaxxed.

Other countries are giving 4th dose of vaccine though. I'm not sure whether we are? I'm one of the ones who got an email saying that I qualify for anti-viral drugs. I didn't call them.

I had that, two bouts of pleurisy and three chest infections after covid, I was coughing up so much fluid it felt like I couldn't get a breath.

I needed several bouts of strong antibiotics and then a course of steroids to get rid of all the inflammation and clear my lungs out, it seems to have worked so far fingers crossed (this might not have been the most recent variant of covid though)

I got the heart thing too. At one point I wasn't sure whether I was just going to give up breathing because it was too damn hard or my heart was going to give out. My chest xrays showed slight inflammation and nothing else.

I hope you recover soon, I am 95% better so now fingers crossed you get there quickly too!

My friend recently tested positive. She has severe asthma and was told to fully shield back in 2020... when she got it she had no symptoms whatsoever. She was very fortunate.

I read somewhere that asthma sufferers are less likely to be severely affected but I'm not sure how accurate or reliable that source was.

Samarie123 · 20/06/2022 07:08

I have asthma and haven't been ill since the pandemic begun. Unjabbed.

KangarooKenny · 20/06/2022 07:09

The usual reviewers of flu will be offered another covid booster in the autumn, it’s already been announced within healthcare.

I’m on Day 2 covid. I’ve got asthma and lung damage from pneumonia- on two inhalers. So far headaches like a migraine and body aches no chest symptoms at moment

JenniferBarkley · 20/06/2022 08:01

I'd be moderate rather than severe, had it April and I was fine. I get a nasty cough with every cold so upped my combination inhaler as a precaution. I was coughing a little but wouldn't even say I had a cough iykwim. The fatigue, brain fog and muscle aches have lingered but the lungs were absolutely fine.

Freddiefan · 20/06/2022 08:12

I have asthma and bronchiectasis. When covid started I was given a two week course of doxycycline to hold just in case. I shielded and became much weaker.

OH brought covid home and I caught it from him, spent a few days in bed but I propped myself up to try and keep my lungs clear. My chest stayed ok and I just rested and sat reading. I was very weak and couldn't even manage to get in the shower.

Freddiefan · 20/06/2022 08:13

I should have said, that was the end of March.

SparkyBlue · 20/06/2022 08:28

My friend has severe asthma and was very worried about covid. She only caught it in May and no issues at all. She is recovered but exhausted and finding herself absolutely drained after work every day but I was the exact same so she isn't any worse they most people.

BG2015 · 02/07/2022 07:15

I have asthma - it's usually well controlled.

I had Covid at the beginning of April and although it was very mild I've struggled ever since with my breathing. I can't walk fast anymore and wake up coughing and wheezing.

My asthma nurse changed my steroid inhaler but it made no difference whatsoever. Went to see my GP who prescribed a 5 day course of steroid tablets which worked like a charm.

But 3 weeks later I'm back to how I was before. Walking is a struggle again and the coughing is awful.

I'm convinced I've got Long Covid. Think I may need a longer course of steroids so will head back to the drs next week - if I can get an appointment.

Moderate asthmatic here, but becomes severe and I need prednisolone if triggered. I take Montelukast and Fostair plus Ventolin when needed. My main trigger for asthma is respiratory viruses - I can catch a cold and be in real trouble with asthma, very quickly. Triple vaxxed.

Am on day 4 of my first ever bout of Covid and I am relieved to say that, so far, I've had worse colds. Very congested then runny, watery nose, felt like something was sitting on my chest initially, but I now gave a bit of a cough. Am tired and slightly headachy on and off, but that's about it

It might help in my case that I have had no colds for over 2 years, so my lungs had had the longest ever break from asthma that they gave ever had.

RuthW · 02/07/2022 23:00

I have asthma. I got covid 6 weeks ago and was completely asymptomatic. I tested positive on a routine test for work.

BloodyHellKen · 02/07/2022 23:23

Hi @Foreo please could you let me know the source of the news that latest variants affect the lungs more. This is the second time I've read this in the last few days on MN but I'm yet to find any evidence elsewhere.

All the information both medical and msm that I can find are all reporting the latest variants are no worse than the previous variant of omicron which didn't particularly affect the lungs.

I also asked the previous poster who reported the latest variants affect the lungs more but they never replied.

I have vulnerable family so this is something I am particularly interested in, thanks 🙂

ThisisMax · 02/07/2022 23:42

Hi My GP told me the same re Asthmatics not necessarily getting covid as expected due to pre priming daily steriod use. He said they were not over represented in figures. Im asthmatic too.
