Pretty sure I can tell when I’m being exposed to Covid

This is going to sound bonkers but hear me out.

As the title says I’m pretty sure I can tell when my body is exposed to or fighting off Covid.

A few times over the course of the pandemic I’ve had very strong and strange feeling sinuses. I can smell almost a smoky smell and it makes me cough. My nose is dry and irritated etc. Quite a few times that I’ve had this I’ve had notification or know I’ve been in contact with someone with covid in the family or friends. I always tested negative.

I actually tested positive for covid 5 weeks ago and for the first day or so I had this dry, smoky smell in my nose again (it’s very recognisable to me now).

DH has now tested positive this evening and the smell is back in my nose again strongly this evening.

Could it be my body fighting it off? Anyone else have this? I’m triple jabbed so I guess it could be my immune system rising to the occasion as it were 🤷‍♀️

Weird, I hadn't associated it with covid but I've had a smoky smell in my nose the last week and have developed a bit of a cold. I only had covid about 6 weeks ago so I haven't bothered testing for it.

Yes i get a weird really dry nose!
I had it started tues and dc tested positive sat. But coukd have been any time before as they only had weird head. I then tested positive the wed (so 8days after start of dry nose but i started feeling ill by the sunday. With chills etc

But i also had weird nose last july after the dc both had had contact. Dc2 vomited. And they both got colds (but actually didnt when they had covid)

However interestingly dc1 had that head feeling on a fri then + sat. and went back to schoo on a tuesday but dc behaviour was severely affected under table HT out etc etc. So (although school obviously didnt know) and dc was absolutely fine by then on face of it and had had 3d relaxing in room it did affect behaviour and that is without doing pe etc.
So for kids like mine potentially gerting this every month is very bad news!
Dc had similar feeling last week headache and vomiting but tested - however again behaviour before had been affected. And both times had nose bleeds.
So yes for some maybe that is unusually dry nose.
Have to.say my nose hasnt been right since mar 20 as it.used to run a lot but almost never now...

Yesss, the smoky smell. I've had this on and off for the last couple of years but have never tested positive for covid. I've not really made a link until reading your post and now I'm wondering if that's what it is.

yeah i get this too, never a surprise when i then get told i was a close contact. i also get very painful joints - reactive arthritis maybe?
I had covid in 2020 so i think i am sensitive to it now

I think people can smell things before any other signs. With all of my pregnancies the very first sign was smelling a very peculiar smell everywhere.

Purplehonesty2 · 04/05/2022 22:08

I get it too. It smells like burning meat crossed with Marjuana to me!!

Apairofbrowneyes · 04/05/2022 22:11

I was getting sore throat/achey joints maybe every 2-3 weeks over the course of a year which would only last a day or two. I then got covid last November and haven’t experienced it since. It did make me wonder if I was being exposed to very low viral loads of covid those times and it was the T cell response. But no smokey smell

Whathefisgoingon · 04/05/2022 22:15

No, I don’t think so.

AFAIK if you’re symptomatic then there is enough there that you have covid. If your body fought it off well enough that you didn’t even test positive then I doubt you’d have any symptoms at all.

just my thoughts, of course.

That's interesting- we recently all had covid and my DH suddenly asked me "can you smell cigarette smoke?"

And then a couple of days later on I thought I could smell a bonfire.

You could be on to something @Exposedwhoknows

We went to a seaside town the other week and dh and ds went into the amusements. I said to them, I'll stay outside, it smells of Covid.
Guess, who's got Covid now?
