Dd 9 got Covid symptoms and tested positive on Monday. We've been isolating since Easter Saturday. She currently has no symptoms but is still testing faintly positive and I guess still will tomorrow morning, when she should be going back to school after the Easter holidays.

Would everyone think it's right to send her back to school? How infectious is she at day 8 with no symptoms? I know legally I can send her back, and she's past the 5 days 'recommended' now anyway. Just wanted some reassurance that that is the right thing to do!

Thanks!

This is a difficult one- obviously the right thing to do is to keep her off until negative on an lft however I’d put money on there being lots of other covid + children at the school, some knowingly but many others unknowingly because there is no longer a requirement to test and you have to pay for them so it’s totally reasonable not to test at all.

in your shoes I would probably send in if no symptoms on the basis that they have missed out on more than enough already and other covid positive children are at school and so the “protecting The vulnerable” argument is now a bit pointless really as so little testing happening

Thanks @Frazzled2207, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. But I was wondering if there were others who would tell me I need to keep her off until day 10!

There will be I’m sure. But I think the majority of people in your situation would send.

Our school follows the guidance so expects them back after 3 days if well. Not sure if that includes the first day.

There is also the issue that (perhaps) they would be technically down as an unauthorised absence at this point. Crazy but true. You could easily get round this however by just saying they are “unwell”

The new rules for Primary age is they can return 3 days after a positive test so long as they are well.. so yes, deffo send them back!
