Hi - so basically that really! I think day of positive test is day zero, but dd positive at mo and is so eager to be negative again. Her pos+ was last Friday and faint, but she wasn't feeling well with achyness. No tests until yesterday and she thought day 5 , so we did it in the afternoon and it was a big bold positive. She still has cold symptoms. She is 16 yr but suffers with severe OCD and has feared consequences of covid since pandemic started. This is her first time had it and as less severe and is so common (plus hubby and I think we had it recently though tested neg, and other child had it in Feb) for her to come out of her room, come downstairs, change scenery, but she is adamant she won't/can't until she tests negative.

So I just wanted clarification when is day 1.

Thanks Kcc

Day 1 is first day of symptoms

Day 0 is first day of symptoms or day of positive test if there were no symptoms. Day 5 from her positive test would be today

When I had it recently (before the isolation rules were swept away) , the day of my positive test was counted on the official app as Day 0, even though the test was done first thing in the morning and I went on to isolate all that day. The official countdown then went on for another ten days until midnight on the tenth day so by the end, I'd actually spent 11 full days inside the house.

Realistically if she's positive you can't really tell whether she's contagious or not. At some point there's a window where it's just chunks of viral protein from dead virus left In the sputum which give the positive, but there's no easy way of knowing when that is until the positives subsequently disappear.

I would just caution underestimating it. Day 0-4 I was up and about, throwing toddler around, running with ball in garden. Day 5 - my god... train + me = my current feelings (Day 7 now).

See day 0 used to be either symptoms or test whichever came first , now they seem to be taking it from positive test in england , yet 119 said I could go from symptoms , app and online says otherwise
Its a mess

Very confusing, DR told my Nan that day 1 was first positive test (monday), despite having symptoms since the previous Wednesday
