Covid? Three weeks of symptoms but testing negative

Around 3.5 weeks ago I had a sore throat and hoarse voice for a few days. This then developed into a violent dry cough that would make me gag and almost throw up. I did multiple LFTs but all negative. Couldn't get a PCR for the first week so didn't do a PCR until 8 days in. Negative. The cough then turned into what the doctor diagnosed as a chest infection (coughing up green sputum, sorry if TMI). I had a week long course of amoxicillin and thought I improved somewhat. But then I had what felt like a sinus infection for a few days. The cough then returned but dry again. I had night sweats. Now 3 weeks on I'm once again coughing up green stuff and feeling exhausted. LFTs negative. My right ankle and knee are suddenly really painful even though I've done less than usual lately, just walking around. I usually run twice a week.
Could this be covid or if not what's going on with me?! I'm so tired of being ill. My G.P is suggesting another course of amoxicillin so I guess I'll try that but curious about whether anyone else has experienced similar?

I’d guess your chest infection didn’t clear fully with the first round of antibiotics and you might need another course. A couple of years ago I ended up with double pneumonia after an initial course of antibiotics didn’t clear a chest infection. A second course of a stronger antibiotic sorted it out though.

Double pneumonia sounds horrible! Yes I think that's what the G.P is thinking. Hopefully it's not covid and the second lot of antibiotics will help. x

I think the coughing up green stuff definitely indicates an infection. I started off coughing up green stuff and when I moved to coughing up blood, thought I’d better visit the gp.again! I was sent straight to the ambulatory care ward at the hospital where they did x rays and a scan to rule out blood clots and confirm pneumonia. It was horrible but the antibiotics had me feeling lots better fairly quickly.

Oh and I had the most dreadful night sweats too, absolutely drenching my pjs.

Other illnesses exist.

This one sounds nasty, def push your GP. I’d suspect the last lot of antibiotics didn’t quite kill off the infection& it’s now come back!

Thank you, off to pick up some antibiotics shortly.

Hows your knee? We suspected Covid but negative tests but like you my DHs knee is very painful...

maybeimjustlikemymother · 11/04/2022 11:47

@flyingdream It was very strange, my right ankle and knee were really painful for an evening but the next day completely back to normal. Never had that before.
