Did Covid mess with your periods?

I had Covid about 3 weeks ago. Since then I've been having watery brown discharge. It's totally odourless. I'm on the Cerelle pill and haven't had a period since I started it. Initially during Covid was red bloody spotting. Wondering whether I should get checked out or whether it's common?

I’ve just been trying to find stuff about this as I was on my period 1.5 weeks ago and have tested positive today and started getting brown discharge yesterday and wondered if covid messed with periods, I’m not on any contraception and normally really regular so this seems odd

ColouringPencils · 03/04/2022 21:00

I tested positive today. Had a period yesterday, which I haven't had for at least a couple of years due to the pill I take. I have also been looking for info about this, but everything just seems to be about the vaccine rather than covid itself

Lilaclavenders · 03/04/2022 22:10

I've not had Covid yet.

But each time I got vaccinated my periods stopped for a couple of cycles...

Noclosure · 03/04/2022 22:19

Both my vaccines messed them up hugely for six cycles

gogohm · 03/04/2022 23:18

No idea I'm peri menopausal, both DD's periods were messed by the vaccines

Kloerose · 03/04/2022 23:22

Had Covid in December. My last 4 periods have been late and both longer and more painful!!!

user1471465748 · 03/04/2022 23:30

Yes. My period was due the week I contracted covid. Delayed it three weeks. Felt premenstrual for the week before. Pain!

notacooldad · 03/04/2022 23:30

No.

SueBird · 03/04/2022 23:33

No thankfully no change to my period after any of the 3 vaccines or after I had Covid (3 weeks ago).

NewYearEveryYear · 03/04/2022 23:34

I started getting Covid symptoms last Saturday - at the same time I also had brown spotting discharge (like the very end of my period).

I tested negative Saturday > Wednesday - and the spotting continued.

My period was due on Monday.

On Thursday, I finally tested positive for Covid and my period started.

I'm never usually three days late.

I occasionally get brown spotting - but it is unusual enough that I noted it down in this instance.

It was like my menstrual cycle was holding tight while I tried to fight off Covid, then when I succumbed, my period started.

MsTSwift · 03/04/2022 23:42

Yes. Period ended at beginning of covid then came back as covid took hold same weird brown as pp described.

TooManyPJs · 03/04/2022 23:47

No it didn't affect them at all.

LikeABreathRipplingBy · 03/04/2022 23:48

The vaccines gave me my first bleed since I went through the menopause a few years ago.

KneesAreSore · 04/04/2022 02:51

The period I had after having my first vaccine was 1 week early

HardyBuckette · 04/04/2022 09:21

No difference either when I had covid or any of my three vaccines. Was fairly rough with covid and nothing other than a sore arm after the jabs.

Iggly · 04/04/2022 09:29

The vaccine delayed my periods. I’m two weeks after having tested positive for covid and my period is already delayed. I had PMS symptoms before I tested positive then it felt like I was having ovulation symptoms again! Still waiting for it to arrive.

There’s a link between long covid and female hormones so I’m not surprised it messes with our cycle. And I’m not surprised that scientists won’t prioritise researching it.

Iggly · 04/04/2022 09:29

Also after my first jab, my period after that was very short, heavy and intense. Over within two days!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 04/04/2022 09:32

I haven't had Covid, but after my first jab I skipped a period. After my second jab my periods were fine. Since my booster in October I've only had two periods. However, I am 55 so I think that has far more to do with erratic periods than the jab!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 04/04/2022 09:53

I had covid twice 6 months apart , had random drown discharge a few times in between covid episodes and now 4 months post last covid I've had 1 very heavy period

Hulahula86 · 04/04/2022 12:58

Weirdly last time I had covid which was over a year ago and before the vaccine it didn’t affect my periods and none of my 3 vaccines have, just this time! Best not mess up my cycle as I was on track not to be on when I get married in July (twice delayed by covid wedding) so it best not make me have my period on my wedding day now it’s finally happening!

Working9to5ish · 09/04/2022 19:47

I'm still bleeding every day, so I think I need to see the doctor, if I can ever get an appointment.

I am peri menopausal and had similar on day 9 of covid (first bleed for 11 months and was less than normal and started with a few days of brown distance) The last period was 3 days after my first vaccine. (11 months prior)

I do feel there is a link.

@LikeABreathRipplingBy interested to read your post as was almost into menopause when the covid/ period arrived (11.5 months)

TulipsGarden · 10/04/2022 08:01

I have Covid now and my period has started a week early. I've always found being properly ill affects my periods though, I remember panicking because I'd missed a period once when I had proper flu.

Oddly the vaccines didn't affect my periods at all.

Working9to5ish · 17/04/2022 02:08

Hi all, turns out it was the pill being thrown out of whack by the virus. I've had to stop the pill and bleeding has finally stopped too.
