Sense of smell

So I've finally caught covid after two years of dodging it - we think youngest DC brought it into the house undetected, because the rest of us all suddenly tested positive on the same day and she's been consistently negative.

Anyway, everyone else in the family seems to have very mild symptoms but I feel like I've been hit by a truck. And the worst thing is that I've totally lost my sense of smell - initially I thought it was because my nose was so blocked but that's resolved now and I still can't smell a thing. Taste seems to be going now as well. I'm on day 4.

So my question is, those of you who this has happened to you, how long did it take for you to get your sense of smell back? And is there anything I can do to help it along? I'm finding it really debilitating!

Lost total sense of smell and taste on day 2 or 3. Came on over a few hours and lasted about 3 weeks.
Then started to come back over a few hours and mostly back over 24 hours.

Best thing ever as got back to a weight i had been for 20 years!!

Lost it fully for about 6 weeks, taste and smell is very much still affected now 5/6 months on though, lots of things I used to love I find unpleasant now etc. It’s got me down quite a lot to be honest, it’s amazing how much you can miss it.

It’s also unfortunately had zero impact on my appetite!

Yep a friend had similar and now doesn't like some foods.

I didnt lose my Appetite as such but wasnt interested in food so tended to eat less and saw no point in eating snacks and thats probably what made the difference

Mine went on day 5 and took a few weeks to come back.

Oh dear 😢 I was very much hoping someone was going to come on and say it only lasted a couple of days!

I wish my appetite was affected, that would be good, sadly I'm still hungry but just not enjoying any of the food I'm still shovelling in!
