Symptoms, how long is it taking to test positive on lft?

I'm fully vaccinated. Had my booster in November.

I had a close contact last week. We maintained social distancing and our contact was only really in passing. She had cold like symptoms last week and had a faint positive at home.

I had a sore throat since Tuesday night. My temperature was boderline fever last night 37.9. Developed a mild cough last night. Feels like phelym dripping.

I'm testing negative at home. This is so weird because I wasn't doing any major mixing like going on public transport or going to town or going out to restaurants or pubs. My work was very busy over the past few weeks so I had little time to do anything nice for myself. My contacts were low. I wasn't around anyone else sick or with colds. I was exposed to covid last week and here I am with symptoms but I am testing negative. I am isolating anyways in order not to pass it on. I was told that it can take days to test positive on the home tests. Is this true? I was testing every day since Tuesday. Tuesday night, wed, Thurs morning and this morning.

I'm nearly ready to give up testing at this stage.

I had a sore throat over 24 hours before my LFT came back negative. With a temp higher than normal you should be having a PCR.

Magicmaths · 18/03/2022 11:54

It took two days for me to test positive but my niece took 5/6 days.

INeedNewShoes · 18/03/2022 11:56

Friends of mine who currently have it didn't test positive until the morning of the third day of symptoms.

buckleten · 18/03/2022 12:00

I had two days of sore throat and feeling a bit off before testing very faintly positive on Wednesday night. Very strong line today!

hellcatspangle · 18/03/2022 12:01

I had contact on the Monday night, symptoms started on the Thursday, tested positive Friday morning

Jules912 · 18/03/2022 12:08

Mine's a bit complicated as had cold symptoms over a week before but think I got a cold then Covid as got a new cough Saturday, LFT and PCR both negative then faint positive LFT on Sunday. So 2 days.

charliewoodstock · 18/03/2022 12:28

About 4 days for me. Make sure you swab your throat too even if the test says nose only, as that seems to work better for a lot of people.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/03/2022 14:40

I never tested positive on LFT but did on a PCR. People rely too much on LFTs, they aren't always accurate and testing negative on them doesn't mean you don't have Covid.

Pcr test if concerned?
Friend had fleeting contact ( minutes) with a person who tested positive the next day. She was positive two days later.
Flu is also around but you would know about it to be honest as are lots of winter type viruses.

Thank you. I will consider pcr over the weekend.

My movements have been limited. I didn't visit a hospital or nursing home or other home with flu.

My only contact who was not 100% over the past week was someone with a cold who had a faint positive over the weekend.

We all had symptoms for over a week before we tested positive. Day six since positive test for me now and I'm utterly fed up!

ShowOfHands · 18/03/2022 16:08

I test daily for work and didn't test positive once. I then developed clear, debilitating symptoms which looked like classic Covid and had a positive PCR. LFTs remained negative throughout.

Sinusheadachesahhhh · 18/03/2022 16:59

Took me 7 days to test positive from my partner testing positive, I had symptoms about 3/4 days after he tested positive all lft were negative until a strong positive 7 days after.

Caffeineandcarbs · 18/03/2022 17:05

Last month DS was positive the day after a runny nose but I had negative lft. That evening I developed a sore throat and was positive by the next day.

My suspected exposure was on Friday. Possibly even again on the Monday.

I felt something was off with my throat on Tuesday night. So that would be about 4 days from a possible exposure on the Friday. Then Wednesday, the throat was slightly sore and tender. I was the same til last night where there was more of a tickle at the back of the throat and a cough was setting in and low grade fever too.

I reckon if this is covid I will see something on a test this weekend.

I definitely have symptoms. I am testing properly digging into the nose and I even swabbed my throat too, before the nose.

I wonder if hayfever season is kicking in yet?
I had a sore throat exactly this time last year too. I got tested but it was negative. I walked around for weeks with a sore throat tip it got too unbearable and it was tonsillitis.

I find it strange how I have similar symptoms to last year and I am now even thinking of hayfever and tonsillitis can go hand in hand?

I'm in the exact same timeline as you and I got a faint positive this afternoon. Feeling awful now

KneesAreSore · 19/03/2022 18:00

(In October) I felt exhausted on the thurs and fri, started coughing on the sat, took pcr on the sat (which turned out to be positive), LFT wasn't positive until the Monday

SpaceyCake · 19/03/2022 18:30

My DH took ages to get the faintest positive. DC had been sniffly for about a week, tested positive on Monday, I tested positive on Wednesday and DH got his positive today (Saturday). He is the worst one out of all of us and has been in bed for three days already, dizzy, shivers etc. We've been testing him every day since Tuesday thinking he'll definitely get a line because of all the symptoms, but he's only barely got a line today. Weird.

I felt a bit achey on Sunday, a bit sniffly on Monday and tested positive on Tue and have not had as many symptoms as DH at all. It's very odd how this virus works.

Lifeispassingby · 19/03/2022 19:29

There are a lot of other things going around other than covid and tbh your contact sounds unlikely to have given you covid so you probably have something else

BigButtons · 19/03/2022 21:49

I have always swabbed both tonsils as well as my nose. Still it took me over 5 days to test positive despite symptoms- which continued to get worse and worse.
No wonder it’s spreading so much.

Today is day number 4 for me but definitely feels like I am improving and on the mend. I am much better this evening. I couldn't resist but test 3 times today. All negative.

Reading this that it took you 5 days to test positive is concerning.

Because I had negative tests and my symptoms were improving I decided to start mixing with my family in the kitchen today. Some cooking had me break out in cough.

I'm hoping I haven't exposed them. I'm going to test one more time tomorrow and maybe even I won't bother at all after all the negatives. It depends how I sleep tonight.

I want to get drunk so badly.
