Do older LF tests pick up the new variants?

Hi
My ds tested positive on a LF test yesterday. I'm not feeling great, sore throat and headache.
I have a few of the nose only tests but i will save them for my other children as they aren't keen on the older nose and throat ones. I tested myself with an older nose and throat test but I wondered whether it will pick up the new variants.

Yes - I tested positive with the old style test yesterday. I have seen lots of people saying that they think those tests are better at picking up Covid than the nose only tests.

3 of my family tested positive last Thursday, I had symptoms same time, but it took till Sunday before I got a positive result on LFT we’ve got both types here and have used both to try and get negative results on days 5 & 6 and both are still coming up positive so yes the old ones do pick up any variant.

Yes though it took until second day of symptoms for me, but so did a PCR!

I've a theory that they're not so good at it, or that LFTs don't pick up new variants for ages full stop. Me, DH and DD were all ill for well over a week before we tested positive, and that's with testing daily (I'm CEV so we were being extra vigilant while symptomatic). Loads of people on here seem to have had a similar experience, also 'irl' people I know who have recently tested positive.

The old style picked mine up fairly quickly.
