(Sorry for tmi in advance)

Mine are-

Cadbury chocolate tastes slightly like fish

Poo and farts all smell the same- rotten cabbage

Eggs taste metallic

Coffee tastes of gravy

Toothpaste tastes like a combination of mild curry sauce and a strange chemical. It also smells of chemical. The same chemical as washing up liquid. Not a chemical I've ever smelled before though.

Onions smell and taste horrendous

This was from Covid in October. Just interested to know what others have experienced and also how long for

I've been scared to post in case of poo troll accusations!
For me all poo smells are exactly the same wether human or dog, and regardless of what's been eaten. Exactly the same "tang"

And the herb and spices all have a musty smell to them. I can't bare to be in that aisle in the supermarket because it makes me gag.

KneesAreSore · 15/03/2022 16:37

HahaGrin Poo troll. Haven't heard of that

Onions - horrendous. Like mouldy bin juice.
Coffee - same but can drink it.
Chicken - like rotten eggs
Eggs - like soil

Apparently it’s something to do with carbon/sulphur. I’m 90% a vegetarian now as a result. I had covid in May last year, lost my taste for about 3 months and then parosmia kicked in. No sign of it getting any better, I’ve just learned to live with it and avoid my trigger foods.

God I miss curry though!

spiderlight · 15/03/2022 16:49

Tea has a horrible cabbagey taste, or I can't taste it at all. This has been since November and it's horrendous because I run on tea. I have a whole cupboard shelf full of different makes of teabags that I've tried - some are slightly better than others, but none of them actually tastes like proper tea. I've even replaced my kettle but it hasn't helped.

BlackInk · 15/03/2022 17:21

My DD said that water tasted like ink.
It only lasted a few days whilst she was actively unwell with fever but no cold symptoms.

Ormally · 15/03/2022 17:44

I never lost taste but: it was hot cross buns - normally love them. The taste was like a chemical metal and it really didn't help the texture which was almost as if slimy, with no distraction of sweetness and spice.

Fabric softeners smelt awful, something kind of pheromoney (I only buy quite bland ones anyway as don't like clingy scents). I had this when pregnant too, it was nearly the only thing to make me want to hurl very quickly.

spiderlight · 15/03/2022 17:48

The fabric softener comment has reminded me of another one - washing powder smells really chemically now, regardless of brand. I used to love the fresh clean linen smell of washing on my radiators but now it smells really vile and artificial, whatever the brand, and my previous favourite brands are the worst.

GoBackToPartyCity · 15/03/2022 17:55

Oh yes, fabric softeners are really chemically and a bit trumpy!

SpringheelJack · 15/03/2022 18:46

My taste/smell were fine throughout the infection (June 2021) but for months afterwards everything smelled like stale smoke. It was really subtle, like a smoker had just wandered through my house (and rolled around in my washing before putting it back in the machine!) I don't get that anymore but my sense of smell is more sensitive. I can smell the kids' breath! It doesn't smell bad - just strong. It's very weird!

chillinwithmygnomies · 15/03/2022 18:54

Eggs taste really off, onions smell rotten, poo all smells the same sort of metallicy, I'm trying to think of what else has changed but this has been an ongoing thing since I had COVID back in April 2020 so I avoid most foods now because I know they don't taste the same.

VivienneDelacroix · 15/03/2022 18:55

It changes for me (I had Covid in October), but my consistent current symptoms are:
A pervasive cooking smell like sweet rotting flesh. Like a butchers mixed with a bakers, it's horrendous. It's worse if someone is cooking meat, but is there no matter what is being prepared.
Also the same smell comes from water, particularly noticeable when I run the shower or bath before putting in bubble bath.
Potatoes taste like burnt metal.
I can't taste much else - I tried eating a lemon - I couldn't taste anything at all, but could feel a sharp sensation at the corners of my mouth.

It's really getting me down- especially the flesh smell.

thecatneuterer · 15/03/2022 19:13

Onions, garlic, sweat, shit (human or cat) and nearly all ready meals and general cooking smells coming from houses all have one smell - and I can't differentiate. And that one smell is something like rancid kebab.

Covid at the very beginning of the pandemic. It's just starting to improve and now shit and sweat do sometimes smell of shit and sweat (doesn't sound like an improvement - but it is!), but the smell of just about anything savoury cooking is unspeakably horrible and has reduced the amount of things I'm happy to eat (vegan and fussy) yet further.

thecatneuterer · 15/03/2022 19:15

Oh and for a few months unneutered tom cat urine (a smell I come across often in my line of work) smelled of wet dog - which was actually an improvement. That seems to have righted itself now though.

CookPassBabtridge · 15/03/2022 19:24

I'm in the thick of it so nothing yetbut my friend:
Garlic tastes like vinegar
Ice tastes like metal

She adored both!

garlictwist · 15/03/2022 19:25

For me, the only thing that tastes weird is ketchup. It tastes sort of peppery and gross and smells terrible.

user1471509171 · 15/03/2022 19:33

Straight after Covid all meat especially chicken tasted off but that rectified after a few weeks. Smell took months to return and I smelt fresh cigarette smoke all the time like someone had just walked past me with a lit cigarette.

KneesAreSore · 15/03/2022 23:29

Really interesting to read. It's all so weird isn't it?

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 15/03/2022 23:43

Oh, and I forgot - mango is now revolting, and I used to love it.

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/03/2022 23:58

I'm on day 3. My sense of smell appears to have fucked off completely. My taste is odd - it's like I can taste things just, but only seriously flavoured things. Chocolate I can tell is sweet on the sides of my tongue but at the front and on top there is nothing. I'm not loving this tbh.

Coffeelove123 · 16/03/2022 00:06

Completely lost taste and smell during covid but regained ‘most’ of it in recent months. I had covid way over 6 months ago now and my smell still isn’t how it was, I have to really try and smell the difference between mint and normal tea which is crazy as previously I could have told the difference from way off.
However the strangest things for me is spice. I use to hate spicy food (I mean really hate couldn’t tolerate it at all) and recently I tired wasabi and it tasted like fresh mint with no spice attached at all. Also during covid coffee tasted like I was chewing on a pouch of tobacco it was disgusting.

Emilyh1986 · 16/03/2022 15:02

My 7 year old normally loves fizzy water. It now tastes like soap apparently

This sounds right. In the Summer Dd only wanted sweet things and DH went mad when the marmite didn't arrive with the shopping. So seemingly tasting strong tastes only. I am day 3 and things are definitely muted.

LadyCatStark · 16/03/2022 15:17

Yes, yes to poo/ farts/ fertiliser (and I live in the countryside!) all smelling the same and weird, like really concentrated garlic. The even weirder thing is that I had covid before Christmas and this didn’t start til last month but I wish it would go away!

KneesAreSore · 20/03/2022 21:19

Another one is a constant smell of petrol which is really bugging me now. It started up again the other day
