Negative on Day 7/8 - can I go into a hospital?

I am on Day 8 and have tested negative now on Day 7 and Day 8. My DM is due to have an operation tomorrow and I am due to pick her up - firstly is this a good idea and secondly will the hospital even let me in if I'm still within 10 days of the start of COVID?

I don't want to let her down, but I also don't want to give her (or anyone else) COVID or break any rules.

I'm not sure anyone will stop you, but the advice is to stay away from vulnerable people until day 10 even if you test negative. Maybe check with the hospital? Different hospitals seem to have different interpretations of the guidance.

Yes that's what I think too but I'm struggling to find out what the exact guidance is! Agreed each trust will probably have different rules.

I work in a hospital and we wouldn't be happy with you coming in, sorry! That said, if genuinely there is no one else to pick her up, I guess you have no choice. In which case, wear a mask, clean your hands and don't sit around - go in and collect her and leave. An alternative is to contact the ward sister and ask could a member of staff bring her outside for you. Good luck and I hope your mum is doing ok.

Thanks. My mum I don't think would fall into the very vulnerable category but I know that other people going into hospital definitely would.

The hospital are apparently fine for me to go in and collect her.
