Change of taste months after recovery

I had covid back in October, lost sense of taste/smell for about 10 days before it slowly recovered.

About 6 weeks ago I noticed that my toothpaste started to taste weird (hard to describe, almost like the smell of matches?) thought it was that brand but other ones tasted the same. Changed toothbrush head still had same problem.

I've now realised its mint that has the weird flavour after having the same issue with chewing gum. Coke tastes weird and chocolate smells off/tastes strange.

I've not had covid again (pretty sure as I've taken regular lf tests)

Just wondering if anyone else has had a change in smell/taste weeks or months after recovery or if I should be bringing this up with the doctor?

Me!! Everything smells of bleach- especially swede and McDonald's! I think I might be going mad!

Yes that happened to me. Covid in August, fully recovered including taste and smell. Three months later I had a cold, def not covid. Since then I get an intermittant phantom smell of wood smoke.

I've just posted the same. I had covid in December and sense have been pretty much fully back over the last month or two , maybe not perfect but okay..,

Things have started tasting off and smoky again! 😪

Not much help but I've had the exact same thing.

I'm getting over COVID now but the wood smoke thing is true for me too. And a horrid metallic taste in my mouth.

Yep! I had covid in March 2020, then in august 2020 things started to taste and smell wrong. It took about a year to go back to normal. I didn’t do anything about it so I don’t know if there’s any way to speed it up! Apparently it’s quite common for it to happen a few months after covid.

Yep had Covid in August 21 didn't lose my sense of taste. Smell unfortunately has come back slowly but toothpaste tastes absolutely rank. Some random things like my sweat smell absolutely vile and worse than they after used to SadAngry

Yes, this is really common! There’s a Facebook group with 40,000 people in it & mostly commonly people lose their smell & several months later find the altered sense of smell starts.

It’s happened to me. Covid in October & my smell/taste came back but weakly, like 30%. In January, the distorted smell & taste began and it’s just been getting worse & worse. Toothpaste is disgusting. Shampoo & conditioner, hand soap, washing powder smell even worse. Peanut butter is awful. Chocolate & my toddlers poo smell the exact same. Not a bad smell but exactly the same 🤯 coke tastes kinda earthy to me. Eggs & chicken & bread taste perfumed.

I’m feeling pretty down about it at the moment. I don’t much want to eat, it’s a good diet I suppose 😣

Oh. Well that sucks. Really hope this isn't permanent or gets any worse :( thanks everyone, hope things improve for us all!
