Can’t believe it’s not covid

Started with a raging throat on Wednesday. It felt really grainy and kept me awake all night then the high temperature came on then few hours later aches and pains. Cough came one yesterday. My scalp feels really tender aswell. I’ve done a lateral flow which was negative. Did a pcr yesterday and it’s come back negative. Really surprised I haven’t got covid. Could there be a mistake. Trying to stay away from my son just in case.

Anyone else felt really rough but it wasn’t covid ?

There are many other respiratory bugs around. If your son is young then could just be one of the routine kid lurgies.

Hope you feel better soon.

Goawayangryman · 19/02/2022 20:12

And to answer your question, yes. I had a cough for 5 weeks post new year that was so severe I fractured a rib. Eventually diagnosed with pneumonia, antibiotics, and all better within a week.

PeacefulPrune · 19/02/2022 20:12

Yes husband and son are both really sick. They've had fevers since Thursday night. Both negative.

Iggly · 19/02/2022 20:12

Well pre covid I used to get the odd nasty cold every few years.

Me, DS and DH have all got a “I can’t believe it’s not covid” cold which reminds me of one of those. Many lateral flows this week means I just need to accept it’s not covid 😂

Goawayangryman · 19/02/2022 20:13

Probably not covid then. PCR is pretty good at not missing positive cases.

Nearlythere28 · 19/02/2022 20:14

I think I secretly wanted it to be so I can get it over and done with Smile I’ve not had it yet but know it’s inevitable

Got all the classic symptoms. Oh well.

Yes I had something similar about a month ago it was awful. I now have covid. Its worse but different.

Clarich007 · 19/02/2022 20:17

Yes same here, I tested positive on Thursday this week , husband fine. He's now got identical symptoms as me, but worse, but had a negative lateral flow, and pcr test !!

Nearlythere28 · 19/02/2022 20:17

Hope you feel better soon. I hope I don’t get covid on top of this.

I have covid. Felt like shit Monday and Tuesday. I did a PCR on the Monday and was negative. Felt better on Wednesday, Thursday back to myself and tested positive on LFD. Only reason I tested was because I have to for work. So could be covid but also just a bug.

MyHaloSlipped · 19/02/2022 20:27

Sorry. Could also be just a bug

lugeforlife · 19/02/2022 20:41

My Dd2 got a neg lft and pcr. Me and her sister got positive pcr so she had to test before she went to school - boom, v v strong and quick positive on lft.

So worth a retest maybe.

You just transported me back to the 90s with a ad featuring a cartoon cow saying "I can't believe it's not butter" in a West country accent

HesterShaw1 · 19/02/2022 22:49

Sorry for flippant comment

mnahmnah · 19/02/2022 22:50

A friend of mine tested positive along with her son. Her other son and husband got the same symptoms soon after, were more ill with it, but tested negative in both LFT and PCR. Strange

2anddone · 19/02/2022 22:51

Ds and I both have horrible sore throats, headaches and snotty noses/coughs. Have both done 2 pcr's each and lfts every day all tests are negative.

Like you op, I was feeling dreadful so tested 4 days in a row. it came up positive on the fourth day. That really surprised me as the three days before I really suffered. I am still sick. My muscles in my back and neck are killing me. Nose, throat, headache, neck and back pain, but am hungry all the time and had no temperature.
StuckInARug · 20/02/2022 07:17

I had strep a few months ago and felt similar to what you describe. I was really unwell for a couple of days.

Didiusfalco · 20/02/2022 07:22

My husband had this last year and gosh was he Ill, we couldn’t believe it wasn’t covid. He now actually has covid and is far less unwell. There are some other nasty bugs around that aren’t covid.

JanglyBeads · 20/02/2022 09:11

Keep testing, you may still have Covid. No test is 100% reliable.

x2boys · 20/02/2022 11:12

I had a nasty virus in October ,really bad cough cold ,I was wiped out with it but negative LFT,s and PCR,s
Both my children tested positive for COVID a couple of days before Xmas ,and I had symptoms but kept testing negative so 🤷
