How long did people still test positive on LFT?

How long after initial positive did people still get positive LFT?

My friend went back to work positive after day 10. She works for NHS. Apparently you are not contagious despite showing positive (?) and you can remain positive for 3 months!

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 16/02/2022 07:31

Do you need to keep testing after day 10?

Some jobs require you test everyday regardless.

Otherwise you don't need to, just for interest I think.

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/02/2022 07:36

DS was still positive day 10, but then stopped testing as it was wasting tests.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 16/02/2022 07:40

I tested negative from day 4. Dd tested positive day until day 9.
My friend who works in a care home was still testing positive on day 14 and her work wouldn't let her back in without 2 negatives. Which she thankfully got pretty soon after.

I obviously understand testing for work or if you're seeing someone vulnerable but testing out of interest is such a waste!

MinnieMountain · 16/02/2022 07:43

Can I ask if many people have had a negative then a positive?
DS (8) had a negative day 5 test but positive day 6. I was hopeful he’d be out today Sad

Beth13579 · 16/02/2022 07:54

I didn't get a negative test until a fortnight after my initial positive. Tested every day during those later stages.

There is no point testing even if you're seeing someone vulnerable so it's all a waste after day 10. My NHS friend who has to test daily went back to work after day 10 testing positive as you are not contagious. The NHS know this, but care homes don't and have different rules. She was not allowed in care homes bit was allowed in private homes (she's an OT). She is fully PPE anyway and has been throughout Covid. In terms of test wasting, she needs to test every day and has done since the kits came out. First positive she had was less than a month ago!! And she was feeling rough so no surprise. In fact, she was feeling rough before the test showed positive.

Actually @MerryMarigold some NHS trusts do require workers to get one negative LFT past day 10 in order to go back to work. But I do understand testing past day 10 anyway. Its can lessen anxiety to see a line fade after a constant dark line. It can help reassure that your body is fighting it. After recovery you're probably not going to need to test again for a good while.

MerryMarigold · 16/02/2022 09:28

Mincepie, that's interesting! It seems quite a crucial thing to not have a consistent policy. You're either contagious or not! She was quite clear she wasn't and it could go on for some time. I'm not sure how long she took in the end.

MerryMarigold · 16/02/2022 09:31

My friend's son had Covid just before Xmas (around 15/12, last week of school) and again 2 weeks ago (end of Jan!). I didn't even know it was possible!

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 16/02/2022 12:26

Update: I'm on day 7 now and my line was barely visible and only appeared after several minutes so here's hoping for tomorrow fingers crossed

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 16/02/2022 13:22

I’m on day 7 too, my line was bright red & appeared almost instantly so it sounds like you’re doing well!

harriethoyle · 16/02/2022 13:50

Day 6 still positive for me and DH on day 10 and still quite strongly positive. He also can't return to in person work until he's had two negatives...
