I tested this morning positive, I tested just and negative

As the title says.

I made a thread earlier asking what the chances of release from isolation for the weekend would be as I had a blazing positive this morning.

But I've just retested and it's negative, not even a faint line on the test.

This happened the opposite way when I got my positive, I was negative in the morning but positive by the evening.

So does that mean if I'm negative tomorrow I can end isolation?

All my symptoms have gone bar the occasional cough if my mouth dries out which might not be covid as I'm asthmatic and have sinus issues.

Has it been 5 days? I thought the tests had to be in the morning and 24 hours apart, so tonight's test doesn't count?

mynameiscalypso · 02/02/2022 20:20

The guidance just says you can start testing after 5 full days and the next day. I can't see anything in the guidance which would mean if you got a negative in the morning that you couldn't leave isolation. There's nothing about 24 hours or when you should test.

@TippledPink Day 5 for me, Test day was Saturday but I had symptoms Friday so test day was Day 1.

I;m happy to test again this time tomorrow, the important thing is DD gets to resume her life over the weekend, and she's desperate to go to school Friday as they have a trip.

@mynameiscalypso Thank you thats how I'm reading the rules too. As I said above though as long as DD gets to go to school on Friday for her trip I'm happy to test again at this time tomorrow.

Ah maybe that was the guidance my work gave me then when I tested positive rather than the government guidance!

I’m on Day 8 (I think, I’m losing track) and was still testing a clear positive this morning. I tested again late afternoon out of curiosity and there’s no sign of a line.

@MadisonAvenue Fingers crossed for a negative tomorrow for you too.

I got a positive in the morning and a negative that same evening. I did another test in a different brand (nose only) to double check and it was also negative. However, the next day both brands were very positive and there's been no discrepancy since. I assume it was because I was in the early stage of shedding that it was inconsistent, plus for the nose/throat one I hadn't waited the full 30 minutes before testing after I'd had a cup of tea so there may have been contamination.

StellaGibs · 02/02/2022 22:50

Sorry I've misread. Gonna blame covid fog. Haha!!

Beakerandbungle · 03/02/2022 08:00

That’s interesting - it did used to say 24 hours apart but now just says the next day in the guidance. I hadn’t noticed the change!

As an aside we have covid in the house atm - I’ve noticed testing in the afternoon seems to often get much fainter lines than first thing in the morning. My DS tested negative in the evening but obviously positive again in the morning.

LethargeMarg · 03/02/2022 08:09

I think testing in the morning when coming to end of isolation is more likely to be positive still. On my day 9 I had a much stronger line in the morning than the afternoon test i had done on day 8.
On day 10 I drank loads of water, steamed my face to decongest and then took a test early afternoon as I was desperate for a negative (work needed) and no trace of a line !

1TheCircle · 03/02/2022 08:35

@LethargeMarg I wondered if eating drinking etc affects the test. My PCR (postal version) said don’t eat or drink 30 mins before taking test.

Im on day 5 and my test this morning is way more faded/lighter than yesterday’s blazing one! So hoping it will continue fading.

I tested this morning and negative, I will continue to test daily until the end of my 10 days just in case. But I have taken DD for a walk, and will be letting her go to school tomorrow for her trip. School are happy for her to go as long as I am negative.
