Do I need a pcr test if positive on LFT for evidence for time off work?

I had horrible taste this morning and just felt run down but wasn't expecting it to be covid. Ds 1 was coughing both took LFT tests his is negative but mine was positive straight away. He's since been for a pcr but I didn't think of booking for myself as my test came up straight away and very dark. I'm so confused now. I work in a school and have notified my work colleagues and I've not been anywhere else. Do I just report the positive LFT or do I do a pcr too?

As far as I am aware you don't need a confirmatory pcr. However you do need to report the result online and you should get a text /email just incase school asks. Hope you get better soon. 😊

OK thank you! Think I've been in shock all day that I have it as just felt run down then suddenly panicked that I should have done a pcr too. Will look into reporting it now.

If you intend on applying for the self isolating support grant you need pcr evidence

ChuckMater · 02/02/2022 19:33

Report your lft result online. You don't need pcr anymore if positive lft

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 02/02/2022 19:37

When you report the LFT result online they send you an email. Don't ignore it, scan down and there's a code half way through, you put that into your covid app if you have it.

My school don't require any evidence and I'm fully paid for anything covid related.

Some employers ( both of mine) insist on a pcr before you can return to work
But might be different for us in healthcare

I've just put in the code as advised and downloaded the NHS app and it's saying I need to isolate for 11 days WTF

The 11 days is if you aren't vaccinated. If you are then you just do your 2 lfts on day 6/7. Also no real point in downloading the app now as it would have had to been running previously to let any close contacts know.

Msgiggles30 · 02/02/2022 20:51

Yes it will say that as its 10 full days after day "zero". However it does have a note underneath about early release if 2 negatives etc. Teacher here too just a sore throat so bit fed up at home now. You won't need PCR proof and should get full pay and COVID shouldnt go against any absence triggers either x

Brilliant thank you. I've not been in the job long so not the start I wanted but can't be helped. Hope you don't feel too bad with it 😔

Days 5 and 6 now...

Thank you. Yes I didn't see the point in downloading the app but it don't me I had to enter a code so did it in case I needed it for evidence for work etc. I've had to list all the people I live with so they can contact them to inform them because obviously I can't! 🙄
