I was still working when DD (10)was off so had to think of things she could do with little input from me. A couple of things she enjoyed:

  • we watched Malory Towers on BBC iplayer. We'd watch one in my lunch break and two after I'd finished.
  • I gave her a packet of ready made pastry and some jam and she made jam tarts and turnovers. Kept her busy for ages.
  • she had a sequin art from Hobbycraft she enjoyed.

I used bbc bite size when mine were off and some key stage appropriate English and maths books from Amazon. I was working so just gave them sort exercises to do which I would then look at. They all felt fine and I can’t bear the thought of get more missed school so we ploughed on.

A zigsaw puzzle.

Colouring book with theme like unicorns and some nice pens.

Making tissue paper flowers or butterflies.

Origami.

Making a collage with newspapers and magazines, scissors and glue. DGD once spent hours doing one. Choose a theme like "animals" and find things to cut out.

When dd (10) was off we found some things on BBC bitesize. Cbbc were also doing some lessons each morning with a few celebrities which she enjoyed they were from around 9am with 30 minutes or so for each age group. Dd also liked to watch find it fix it flog it and countdown.

We got some sticker by number books for Christmas for both dd's which keep them occupied for ages. They had done them at holiday club and love them.

DD is a year younger but we have spent the day making paper decorations, paper lanterns etc. We got lots of ideas off Pinterest.
I also froze a cup of squash on Saturday when she was feeling hot and it took DD about 45 minutes to consume it today during which time I enjoyed the peace!

I worked, she watched tv - I managed a bit of school work during my breaks but I can’t do two jobs at once. She was perfectly fine and will catch up this week. Felt guilty but you just can’t do everything x
