How soon are people testing positive after being exposed?

I know it varies in just trying to work out if I may be able to breathe a bit easier yet as DS tested a strong positive last Tuesday and me and DH triple jabbed with booster not that long ago are testing negative.
Do you think it's likely we would have tested positive by now if we were going to catch it?
How many days did it take for people to yay positive after close contact or exposure?
The guidance is to test for 7 days after close contact so surely there's something in it that means after then your not likely to have caught it?
Thanks

It does vary a lot so this isn't gospel... but the people I know who've had it recently seemed to start feeling grotty between two and four days after their (assumed) exposure, and then started testing positive either later that same day or the day after.

The thing is that you could theoretically contract the virus from your DS on the very last day of his infectious period. You may have been first exposed 7 days ago, but could still contract it from him until he's no longer infectious. I would advise being cautious and continue regular LFT testing for a few days after your DS's isolation ends.

PCR - 3 days. LFT - 4 days. The reason I got a PCR is because I was symptomatic 3 days after exposure, but LFT was negative, and I just had a feeling I was positive. I was right! I know exactly where and when I got it, as a few others tested positive too.

My DH was positive 5 days after my positive test and he didnt isolate from me at all he was doing daily LF tests after I was positive. Day 5 he tested positive

I was positive last sunday, husband went positive yesterday (7 days later) and kids positive today (8 days later) having done daily tests since my positive. Adults both triple vaccinated. We thought they'd be out of the woodwork but they had sky high temperatures last night.

Ds exposed Monday. Symptoms and pos lft Friday.

We then all got pos lft exactly 4 days later. We all had symptoms for the day or two before.

So for us 4 days till positive lft.

Adults triple vax

Whyarewehardofthinking · 31/01/2022 12:07

4 days, if I am correct with my assumptions. Monday I had 3 year 13 girls in my class for 2 hours, I helped them with some calculations at lunch in my office (all masks) then the next day 1 tested positive randomly. Other 2 tested and also positive. I woke up feeling dreadful on Friday morning. Lateral flow instantly positive, PCR back last night confirming. Their Maths teacher tested positive Saturday. Students have had at least 1 vaccine, both the maths teacher snd I are triple vaccinated.

This is my 3rd bout of covid, second for maths teacher.

Ds got a positive on Thursday (asymptomatic) and Dh got his yesterday (cough and feeling a bit grotty). I've got a slight sniffle this morning so I'm assuming it's in the post.

Sammilouwho · 31/01/2022 12:49

We've got our positives this morning on LFT.
Had a sore throat for 4 days and DD has had a cold for over a week, she had negative PCR test and negative LFT's all last week, I had negative LFT's all last week. So it's taken a while for us to get our positives.
I've got a sniffle and a sore throat today and feel tired (but we have a 10 day old baby who isn't sleeping too) and DD has a cold and no appetite. Both of us are fine other than that.

My daughter had her first symptoms Wednesday/Thursday.

I got my positive on Saturday.

dontcallmelen · 31/01/2022 14:07

I tested positive six days after Ds had a positive lft, Dh tested positive six days after I tested positive, neither of us any symptoms picked up due to testing after each one of had a positive lft.

Picklesandbeans · 31/01/2022 14:34

I'm on day 5, my dd tested positive today 😔

CaveMum · 31/01/2022 14:40

DS tested positive first. 4 days later DH tested positive after feeling off for a day (but testing negative). I tested positive yesterday (negative in the morning but positive in the evening, only tested again as I felt so rough), that was day 10 for DS and Day 6 for DH.

DS didn’t get his negative tests until day 9 & 10 of his isolation but DH was negative day 5 & 6.

DD has tested negative throughout.
