Two positive LFT’s this morning. How likely are they to be wrong?

I test twice a week as standard because I work in a school. I did an extra test on Thursday this week because I had a migraine and that was negative. Felt fine after I’d slept it off, this morning I got up and felt sniffly and a bit congested, which isn’t unusual for me as I have sinus problems and allergies and they always get worse as the weather gets milder. Did my Sunday test as usual and was shocked to get a glowing positive after about 8 minutes. Did another to be sure, and another glowing positive in slightly less time! These are the newer nasal only tests as I can’t get the old throat swabs. I’ve just been for my PCR and am now waiting for the results, but am just wondering how likely they are to be false positives? (I know in my head I have I BTW).

I can’t believe it! Two fucking years and I’ve not got it, I’ve had people breathe all over me who subsequently tested positive, I’ve shared cars with people who’ve tetsted positive I even survived the run up to Christmas when everyone at work and most of the kids dropped like flies. But it looks like it’s finally bloody got me!

You're positive and you didn't need a PCR I'm afraid. Our family had avoided it entirely until very recently too.

Sorry I dodged it for two years with two kids in nursery and/or school and just succumbed too. I had decided I had immunity! oh well

Why did you go for a PCR? You're supposed to go with the positive lateral flow now.

You can't mistake it when you see those two lines unfortunately... Yes you're positive and yes it's absolutely everywhere now and incredibly contagious. Virtually no one I knew had it for two years but since December at least 7 family members have including both my children. Fortunately even very vulnerable relative had mild or no symptoms only. Hang on in there!

Definitely positive.

We all dishes it too until Christmas. Then we all got it!

You only need a PCR if you have one of the official symptoms AND your lft is negative.

I live in Wales so I think the rules are different here, though to be honest it’s so confusing I don’t know what’s what anymore. I’d rather have a PCR just to make it certain I think.

I’m very congested. My ear is blocked up, throat is scratchy and I’ve started coughing in the last hour. However I don’t actually feel unwell, and had I not had to do a test for work I probably wouldn’t have bothered. I felt worse when I had a humdinger if a cold over Xmas and New Year (tested negative then). Ahhh well.

I had a positive LFT this morning too, what you needed to do was record it on your school database and record it on the NHS one. Then they would have sent you an email with a code that you put into the app to notify close contacts, you then get an email from T&T to fill in. All in all took me about 30 mins this morning.

Yup - you're positive OP. Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine and I've been positive since Tuesday. Omicron is extremely transmissable. I'd avoided Covid too until this week.

How likely am I to lose my sense of taste and smell? This has bothered me all along, as I love my food.

Yeah, you're positive.In fact, if you get a negative PCR it's more likely to be a false negative on the PCR than a false positive on the lateral flow.

Two glowing positives? Highly unlikely to be wrong! Especially given the current very high infection rates. And you don't need to do a confirmatory PCR. I hope you are isolating already.

Assuming you are fully vaccinated, you are unlikely to be particularly unwell, especially as you aren't yet. I know more people testing positive than ever at the moment (reflecting overall rates, I think) but all basically symptom free (again reflecting overall data). The losing taste/smell symptom doesn't seem to happen anymore.

Unless you have a nose bleed contaminating your swabs your positive for sure (and I only found this out yesterday)

Only if you've tested and it's come up and you have no symptoms. If you have symptoms you still need a PCR. Why do people find this so hard to understand? And why are you posing this incorrect information as the absolute truth?

OK. Explain to me why you'd need a PCR if you have a positive lateral flow and have symptoms.

I have lost my sense of smell! And my sense of taste was affected too.
