Are people reporting positive LFTs or just self-isolating?

DS (away at uni) has just tested positive (again!). Is planning to self-isolate for the 5 days, and until negative tests, but when I asked him if he'd logged his positive result he said no, and "nobody was doing that these days".
He's told all his flatmates (he got it from them anyway) and his friends who he's seen/ been near in the last week so they can test regularly.

Is Test & Trace still happening, or did it end after 17 Jan?

I register all of ours.

Touch wood, we’ve never had a positive but inregietser every test that we use. I assumed that schools, workplaces etc would get reports of numbers of pupils testing. Am I a bit deluded with this assumption?,

Anyway, it doesn’t take long.

No wonder the stupid government thinks the numbers are going down if people aren't reporting.

Twiglets1 · 30/01/2022 16:20

Talking to friends and people at work, lots are no longer reporting it. Due to the belief which I agree with that we should be focusing just on hospitalisations and deaths now, not cases.

Of course they know the reason cases are going down - it was obvious they would do so the minute they changed the strategy

I work in a school and we get the names of students isolating from Covid every day. But we don’t ask for proof so whether they report it officially (not that this would be proof either) is not known to us

@Twiglets1, I wonder why the reporting site asks why you’re testing and where you work / go to school, if those places don’t receive any information?

RedToothBrush · 30/01/2022 16:28

@purpleme12

Yes I reported it Like someone said, if I had turned out to get complications from covid I'd want a record down there somewhere
I'd hope that doctors had a fucking clue without the need for this tbh.

Can't see the point of registering it. Inform school yes, but beyond that, utterly fucking pointless for most people. T&T do fuck all anyway. The only thing it does is provide legal protection against dodgy employers.

So log it, if your employer is difficult about stuff like this.

Otherwise the number of cases is largely irrelevant at this point. Its hospitalisations and deaths that matter.

We will be ending ltfs within months anyway i suspect.

I tested positive this morning, registered it online, was sent the test and trace email to record close contacts and a code to put in my NHS app as you would a +PCR. Im sure I caught it at work, I work in a school so it's important they know in terms of outbreak data.

Staff/pupils I know haven’t used the reporting site so the information comes from staff phoning in sick or parent’s phoning in to tell us their children have Covid

WhiteJellycat · 30/01/2022 16:32

I didnt report ds positive LFT. We informed the one club he goes to and school did the positive test. So there was no need to I evolve the hassle of t&t.

The numbers wont be accurate yes that's true but in the grand scheme of things I really dont see how that's going to change anything. If he had done a PCR maybe I would have felt differently but it's his second positive and if it didnt warrant a PCR then I just didnt feel like it a big deal. We follow isolation but without the faff of the phone calls.

No they don’t. In theory t&t contact classmates etc if named as close contacts but not sure they actually bother as the vast majority of close contacts don’t isolate any more. If dc have covid parents obviously let the school know not t&t.
