My 7 week old baby is in hospital at the moment. She has covid but they think she also has a secondary infection. I turned positive yesterday and that was day 1 of symptoms. It felt very mild but today I feel horrific..I feel dizzy and like I’m going to pass out if I stand up and have a funny tummy and feel sick also. Is it normal to feel this poorly so quickly? I’ve had 3 vaccines and thought the latest strain was meant to be like a cold. Feel really stressed as I have to be right for my baby and also have w 2 year old at home when we go home. My husband and mum and both positive so no-one else can help at the hospital either. I think maybe just panicking as I have a big responsibility and very sleep deprived

Sending you hugs. Awful for you.

So many people on here say 'COVID is no more than a cold...', I'm day 9 and feel ghastly. Can't imagine how some of our ill children feel.

Your little one is being looked after, can you rest? Can you arrange turn with your DH to rest. You will feel more in control with some sleep.
Be really practical including about what you eat. Ready soups from the fridge counter are a great healthy, quick choice.

Sorry OP, that is hard. PP has some good advice. X

How are you doing @Roo88766?

Strangely not much support around today, just when you really need some!

It really, really isn't "just like a cold" for a lot of people and yes it is totally normal to feel very poorly. Luckily as you are vaccinated and boosted it is really unlike that you will become seriously ill. Nevertheless it is really important that you rest as much as possible and drink plenty. Really lots, especially if your tummy is playing up.Hope your baby picks up quickly (they usually do) and hopefully either you, your dh or your mum will do likewise- or find that for them it's just like a cold - and they can look after the rest of you.

Hi OP, so sorry to hear your little one’s in hospital. It must be so worrying. What’s the ward like? My DS had a few nights in hospital when he was 4 months and he was the youngest on the ward by a long way. I hope you’ve got somewhere half decent to sleep.

I tested positive yesterday and DS who is now 7 months has started to get poorly today. He’s just a bit horse sounding at the minute and has a bit of an upset tummy.

I’m triple jabbed and I feel crap today, feeling very achey and weak.

@CroftPlace thank you! Unfortunately my husband is still testing positive so he can’t swap with me as even though we’re in a covid section of the hospital hed still have to walk through normal bits of the hospital. Although when I arrived they let me sit in the waiting room with everyone despite me telling them so can’t quite work it out! My daughter has perked up a lot this afternoon thank god..I feel up and down one minute feel ok and then really weak and lightheaded. Can’t tell what’s covid and what’s sleep deprivation..just feel so mentally drained as she’s had lots of horrible canula inserts and lumbar puncture, really horrible seeing her so distressed.

@PinkPlantCase fortunately we’re in a private room rather than ward because of covid so it is quiet at least! I’ve stayed on a ward with my other daughter before and it’s a nightmare! I hope you and your son feel better soon and I’m sure he’ll only have a mild case. The doctors here say most children do it’s the ones who have some sort of secondary infection that are poorly.

Sorry your little one is poorly. Hope they are better soon.

@Roo88766

How are you and your baby? Keep thinking of you.

CroftPlace · 30/01/2022 18:03

I too have COVID and feel just awful. Certainly 'not just a cold'. Feel like I've been hit by a bus and without an improving trajectory -felt ok one day, thought I was getting better then awful again.

Insomnia is a symptom, I'm on day three of less than 2 hours sleep each night. Can't imagine having a baby to care for too.
