No positive LF tests but all the symptoms

So my 7 year old son came down with covid over the weekend and had it really bad, throwing up and everything, but just for about 24 hours and then back to normal. I spent the whole time with him, cleaning up after him and cuddling.

Both me and his mum have since come down with the symptoms of Omicron. I haven't been anywhere, just at home with my son so I don't see how it can be anything other than covid but lateral flow tests are negative. I am awaiting lateral test results but wanted to hear if anyone else has had no positive LF tests but still tested positive?

We currently all have covid and tested positive on LFT but my friend and her family all had negetive lateral flows except one of her DC and all their PCRs were positive! Hope you are all ok.

LargeYorkshirePuddingAndGravy · 28/01/2022 08:55

Sorry that should say I'm awaiting PCR results

It's pretty common. Happened to me and DS.

TeenTitan007 · 28/01/2022 09:11

Same situation here. All of us got symptoms and kept testing everyday. We only turned positive (LFT) after 48-72 hours from start of symptoms. Ironically we were almost well by this stage.
Makes all the LFT/PCR testing look a bit pointless after the horse has bolted.

Sockpile · 28/01/2022 09:11

My DS has no symptoms, negative LFTs yet tested positive on a PCR last weekend.

indie123 · 28/01/2022 09:44

My symptoms started monday and i didn't get positive lft until yesterday

HRhelp · 28/01/2022 09:46

Strange question but which LFT’s are you using? I have this week tested positive on the nose and throat ones however showing negative on just the nose ones.

HRhelp · 28/01/2022 09:48

However I have no symptoms, Tested due to close contact

LargeYorkshirePuddingAndGravy · 28/01/2022 09:58

I've been using the just nose ones but I have been swabbing my throat too.

I do have a box of the the other kind, are the tests different or just the fact you swab your throat?

I never got a positive lft until after positive PCR about 5 days later.

HRhelp · 28/01/2022 10:14

I honestly don’t know if it’s the test is different or the fact the throat is also swabbed but it’s worth a go I guess! My daughter on the other hand is very much positive on just the nose ones. The test line comes up straight away

frizzyandfrazzled · 28/01/2022 12:08

My daughter had symptoms but negative lft and pcr. Maybe you have it really mildly? I would carry on daily testing til this weekend and then go back to normal. It's strange but what else can you do but use the tools we have?

Tonkerbea · 28/01/2022 16:06

Same situation here, DC positive Sunday Eve. I felt rough on Tuesday, but negative PCR from Monday and all my lateral flows, including today's, have been negative. I don't get it! Actually feeling ok now, just tired, but I've gone for another PCR as would hate to pass it on.

Do you think you can have a very low viral load, that's missed by tests?

Kasaavin · 28/01/2022 16:13

I've heard that omicron is found predominantly in the throat early on. Not sure how true that is but I know some Drs that recommend doing your throat to be on the safe side.

karlakourt · 28/01/2022 16:43

Same here

Child had symptoms earlier in the week. We all pcr tested on Wednesday

Adults negative. Child pos

Adult has the symptoms and child doesn't

Lateral flow negative

doodlyfiddly · 28/01/2022 17:02

DD had symptoms on the Sunday morning. We took her for a PCR and got the positive result that night.
I tested her with a LFT on the Tuesday and it was negative, not a hint of a line, so I thought we'd be on for an early return to school.
Tested on the Thursday and a thick positive line came up immediately. So there was a 3-4 day delay between testing positive on the PCR and then the LFT in her case. She had only been unwell that first day.

LargeYorkshirePuddingAndGravy · 28/01/2022 17:35

Well my wife's PCR has come back negative so who knows what she had. So weird.

Still waiting for my result.

Well my first test came back inconclusive but just got my retest results and they're negative so I guess it must just have been a bad cold. Which is weird, because I've literally just been at home with my covid positive kid for a week Confused

Maybe if you have a cold when you're exposed to covid it somehow protects you?
