LFT might not pick up +ve if triple-jabbed?

If someone is triple-jabbed, does it mean their viral load won't go up as much if they get covid so the LFT is less likely to pick it up?

I know a family where the kids all had covid and their triple-jabbed parents didn't test +ve but both had a 'bad cold' at the same time.

Could they have had covid too but the levels were just too low for the LFT to pick up?

I'd love a nice simple BBC website answer to this!

Does seem a bit of a coincidence. Could be that it hasn't shown up for them yet. Sounds like they need to do a pcr as have symptoms..
I have covid and have a very strong line on my lft. But it was extremely light when I felt my worst. My dh has symptoms but his lft is negative, so is getting a pcr. Seems a bit of a coincidence if he doesn't have it as my daughter is positive too. We're both triple jabbed too.

I'm triple vaccinated and my lft picked up covid with mild symptoms.

We do have to remember there are other illnesses out there

chipsandpeas · 27/01/2022 23:00

im tripled vac and i got a strong positive straight away on lfts and my symptons are quite mild

NarcissistsEyebrows · 27/01/2022 23:07

I'm triple jabbed, didn't catch it when DD had asymptomatic covid before Xmas so perhaps that have me some extra immunity as I didn't distance at all and she's 8 so we cuddle lots

I tested positive a few days ago and so far am ad close to 100% asymptomatic as I could be - the mildest of sore throats for a day but no more.

But enough virus to register on an LFT?!

DS has never tested positive even though he's been snotty and coughing when DD had it.

I can't help thinking there is another factor or two to the tests which we don't understand yet

urghrtypically · 27/01/2022 23:10

I only got a positive LFT by using a throat swab, nose alone was negative. Throat was a strong positive within a minute.

rattlemehearties · 27/01/2022 23:10

They should be getting PCR tests surely

urghrtypically · 27/01/2022 23:14

@rattlemehearties my symptoms weren't the ones needed to get a pcr but I lied, I guess some people won't lie on the form.

Rtmhwales · 27/01/2022 23:15

Triple jabbed, zero symptoms and mine has picked it up. I only tested because DP, also triple jabbed, had a headache and had to test for work. Mine was faint, his was a blazing positive.

rattlemehearties · 28/01/2022 07:10

@urghrtypically But they've had close contact with positive cases. They can book a PCR surely

urghrtypically · 28/01/2022 09:01

@rattlemehearties close contacts are 7 days of LTFs now.

BabyInTheJungle · 28/01/2022 09:13

This is the exact situation I'm in so I'm booked for a PCR to find out one way or the other.

tpmumtobe · 28/01/2022 09:23

DC have had it for last week. Pos on LFT and PCR. DH and I (triple jabbed) neg on all precautionary LFTs, including the morning of the day symptoms started. PCRs positive.
Apparently Omicron is harder to pick up without a throat sample.
We both felt like we had a bad cold (plus I had a nasty sore throat).

Quintilla · 28/01/2022 09:28

This is exactly what happened to me. Entire family had Covid at the same time, I had the strongest symptoms but never got even a hint of a line on an LFT. Had a hospital swab which was also negative (in for routine appointment). A PCR I booked for peace of mind and due to symptoms eventually said positive but it never showed up on LFTs 🤷‍♀️

Triple jabbed husband did get several days of strong positives on LFTs though so it seems quite random.

AnnieLobeseder · 28/01/2022 09:33

Both my kids have COVID at the moment, and I've got a streaming nose. I'm still coming up negative on LFTs, but DH and I both did a PCR yesterday cos it seems very unlikely we'd avoid getting infected.

TheVolturi · 28/01/2022 10:22

This is interesting!

IggyAce · 28/01/2022 10:26

Both dh & I are triple jabbed and it was picked up on a lft.

FreeButtonBee · 28/01/2022 10:27

Triple vaxxed here and DH had a bright line. Mine was fainter but still there. One kid had a bright line; two others under 10 so not vaxxed haven’t tested positive at all 🤷‍♀️

scaredsadandstuck · 28/01/2022 10:27

Not sure if it's related to vaccination or not. My unvaccinated DS13 got repeated negative LFTs and only showed up positive on PCR. My unvaccinated DS9 very positive on LFTs. My double vaccinated (at the time it happened) also very positive LFTs. I suspect there are a lot of variables.
