Why have I got this email (visited a venue linked to a Covid 19 outbreak)?

I've just received what looks like a legit text saying that I have visited a venue linked to a Covid 19 outbreak.

But

  • I don't have and never have had the tracking app
  • I haven't been anywhere since before Christmas where I was required to give any details

I'm currently working from home and the only indoor place I've been in the last week is the supermarket (where there has been no outbreak; DS works there so would also have been alerted).

So what on earth has prompted this?

Someone’s mistyped a number on the track and trace I reckon.

What does the text tell you to do?

Take a PCR test if I have symptoms (I don't) or to take a lateral flow test (which I do regularly anyway).

How do you know it’s not the supermarket. If you have a loyalty card, they would have your mobile number.

I think I explained that in my OP :)

And it's a huge supermarket. Surely just being there at the same time as someone else who had Covid wouldn't trigger an email? I might have been nowhere near them!

I think possibly a scam? Just ignore if you haven’t been to the place
