DD, 11, still positive on LFTs on day 9 - is this normal?

Unjabbed DD is 11 and tested positive on the LFT last Sunday, which makes today day 9.

We had hoped she'd be clear on day 5 and 6 so she could go back to school early, but no. She has been consistently coming up positive on the LFT we do every morning. They are a little bit fainter, but not much.

Is this normal? She doesn't have symptoms - she feels a tiny bit coldy in the mornings but is fine once she's had her toast.

I'm starting to wonder if this is normal - is everyone else getting negative by day 9?

Please reassure me!

DS was still testing positive on day 11 but by day 13 (needed a clear lateral flow for an event we had tickets to) he was testing negative, so hopefully she’ll test negative soon too.

Elsiebear90 · 25/01/2022 17:47

I don’t think it’s unusual. I have covid, I’m triple vaccinated and still getting strong positives so far on day 6, I’ve heard of some people testing positive for two weeks despite being vaccinated.

ItsSnowJokes · 25/01/2022 17:50

You can test positive for up to 90 days on LFT and PCR. It's not unusual at all. She will be free from Thursday even if still testing positive.

Punxsutawney · 25/01/2022 17:52

I am also on day 9 and triple vaccinated. My LFT today was a very strong positive. I also still have symptoms.

LetsGoParty · 25/01/2022 17:54

Very normal. She doesn't need to take anymore tests now. It's pointless. She can go to school after the full 10 days.

Firesidefox · 25/01/2022 18:04

OK thanks all, I appreciate that. She's started to dread them so it's a good idea to stop now.

I hope you start to feel better soon @Punxsutawney

Thanks Firesidefox glad she doesn't have to do anymore tests! Don't think I will now either.

I work in a primary school, so that's where I picked it up. My class have been hit hard. And last week, I was off, as was the class teacher and 21 of the children.

Firesidefox · 25/01/2022 18:14

It's a nightmare at the moment isn't it @Punxsutawney My husband caught it off our daughter, testing positive on Sunday, a week after her, and is currently on day two, and I am SO SICK of trying not to catch the damn thing!

It's exhausting, avoiding each other in the house all day long! And wondering if every headache is covid.

I hope you recover quickly. It's all so crap, isn't it!

My youngest (7), of all of us, was the mildest. He tested positive until about day 11. I was surprised. None of us in the household tested negative on day 6. People definitely do. Just not us.

Punxsutawney · 25/01/2022 18:26

It is. We have managed to avoid Covid, right up until this point.

We are fortunate that nobody else in the house has picked it up at the moment. I'll be back to work on Thurs (as despite coughing still, I've not got a high temp anymore). Will be interesting to see how things are going there.

Username3092997 · 25/01/2022 18:55

Yep normal. Dd had covid in December, she was totally asymptomatic and still had a line right on the end. Can still leave isolation after 10 days!

She's actually caught it again this week after an outbreak in her class. She had symptoms this albeit mild and was negative by day 5&6.

So it varies hugely!

2pinkginsplease · 25/01/2022 18:58

I’m on day 11 and still testing positive!

Nocutenamesleft · 25/01/2022 19:00

Friend of mine was still positive some weeks later.

Apparently you can test positive for weeks. You’re just not likely to pass it on.

So don’t worry. I’m on day 12 and I’m positive still. But no chance of passing it on.

WhatHaveIDone21 · 25/01/2022 19:07

I tested positive on the same day as your daughter and I am still testing positive today. It is slightly fainter today but that's the first time it has been. I am triple vaccinated but have felt unwell with it. I am back at work on Thursday.

Firesidefox · 25/01/2022 19:18

So interesting to hear others in the same boat. I was doing some stalking on MN and feeling a bit envious of people all testing negative after a week or less.

Im not even testing positive on a LFT yet so thinking day 5/6 maybe I won't either
Positive PCR though makes me wonder if i actually had it before and never realised although been doing LFT tests twice a week
