Is day 1 when you rest positive or from day symptoms start?

Feeling really overwhelmed. We’ve got covid 2nd time in 6-7 weeks.
Symptoms started before we got positives on lateral flows. Is day 1 when symptoms start or when you test positive?
My DS has had symptoms since Friday, but was testing negative until today. So is today his day 1?

You start at day 0 - this is the day either symptoms start or, if asymptomatic, the day you test positive. So Friday was day 0 for your dc, even if they didn't test positive until today. Hope they feel better soon. I found this helpful (I'm currently on day 9 and still testing positive!).

Yes I’m in England. Thanks. My middle DC is very very strong positive whereas other 2 have faints at the moment, but guess it’s only early days yet.
