No symptoms no lft positive ?

What are the chances of having covid but no symptoms and lft negative? I'm literally surrounded by covid positive cases at home and work (school) and I've got a bit of a cold but negative on lfts?

My LFTs were showing negative and I feel like I've got a bit of a cold. My kids all have covid. So I did another LFT this evening (after negative this morning) which was again negative. I've only been doing nasal swabs but remembered reading on here that people had been negative with that but positive with the throat swab. So did another one straight after but swabbed tonsils and nose and it was positive straight away.
I would've gone for a PCR if it had been negative though as I feel like if my household are all positive and I've got cold symptoms then there's a strong chance it's covid and my viral load is just lower because of the vaccinations.

I started to feel like I had a cold when I caught Covid (from my son who had tested positive so I knew it was coming) I didn’t start testing positive until I was a day or 2 into having the symptoms so I would keep testing daily if you can.

DrAddisonForbesMontgomery · 23/01/2022 21:32

Like pp said, swab your throat too. I had negative lft but positive as soon as I swabbed my throat. Did eventually show up on the nose tests a few days later.

Picklesandbeans · 23/01/2022 21:33

@noseringGirl thanks I'll try that. My work wont let me get pcr in morning I've got to go in but might go for pcr after school if I still have a cold and negative lft. I'll try throat swab though thanks. I honestly cant see how I havent got it and now having a cold I just dont want to keep spreading it!

Everyone in the house had it. I was getting negative lfts every day. I had an aching leg and felt a bit tired so did a pcr, came back positive.

DrAddisonForbesMontgomery · 23/01/2022 21:41

I did my throat and then nose, so both just to be sure.

Picklesandbeans · 23/01/2022 21:53

Thanks will do both now. Yes I'm going for pcr tomorrow after school- wont have time before and headteacher said as I havent got 3 main symptoms and lft negative I have to be in as usual which I do understand but 1/3 of my class and both my dc are positive!!

I did my throat and both nostrils just to be sure! It's mad your head teacher isn't allowing you time off for a PCR under the circumstances Confused

Moff2k · 23/01/2022 22:10

Doing a PCR isn't needed now though?

Perfectlystill · 23/01/2022 22:12

Yes I don't see the need to bother with PCRs now?

Covidworries · 23/01/2022 22:13

Just interested to find out throat lft result and pcr result

Juniper68 · 23/01/2022 22:15

Did you do another lft?
Caliexpidocioussuper · 23/01/2022 22:15

It seems sensible to do a PCR if you have a house of Covid and are ill. Working in a school is a lot of people to pass it on to.

user1471530109 · 23/01/2022 22:18

This is really interesting. My DD is on day 5 (no symptoms) and I've had cold symptoms for at least as long as she has been positive. I even went for a PCR on her day 0. Every LFT negative as was PCR. But I have a headache and sore throat. Sneezing etc. Very mild though and hasn't got any worse.
I'll definitely do a throat swab tomorrow.

If I does go positive. Can I count my isolation as my first day of symptoms even though that was 5 days ago and all tests have been negative? Guessing not Sad

Wizzbangfizz · 23/01/2022 22:20

Why do you care our you are not poorly? Poorly stay at home and don't infect others - otherwise go about your business.

Picklesandbeans · 23/01/2022 22:30

I'm not sick enough to be off work @wizzbangfizz it feels like a cold but I care if its covid as this how it spreads!
Done another lft and awaiting results but looks negative.....
For those asking - no pcr not needed if lft positive but my lft is negative so hence me asking.

Picklesandbeans · 23/01/2022 22:40

Lft still negative.

Covidworries · 23/01/2022 22:58

I would redo lft in morning throat and nose. if negative it would prob be a good idea to PCR as some people dont show on LFT

altmember · 23/01/2022 22:58

Omicron symptoms are very, very similar to common cold symptoms. I'm on day 5 of covid and my symptoms are very much cold like for me - Runny nose, congestion, sneezing, headache, but no cough.

Apparently at the moment about half of people with cold symptoms actually have covid. So could be either, but if the rest of your household has covid, it would be an unlucky coincidence for you to have some other cold at the same time.

I'm triple vaccinated and was stuck inside with my covid positive kids for a week before I got it (they were mostly asymptomatic, certainly none of them suffered any of the 3 official covid symptoms). During that week I felt a bit rough, under the weather, just like you do when you've got a cold brewing (except it went on for longer). I was testing negative daily on LFDs and even had a negative PCR.

One of my gf's kids also caught covid last week (not from us). His sibling (and they share a bedroom) now has a cough as well, but is still getting negative LFD results. And because his cough isn't 'continuous' they've decided not to get a PCR. I know I would be in those circumstances, it can only be a matter of time.

WitchSharkadder · 24/01/2022 00:26

I had 2 of my DCs test positive (and be completely asymptomatic) when I felt rubbish with cold type symptoms yet kept testing negative. I went for a PCR to be sure and that also came back negative 🤷🏻‍♀️

Two weeks later now and DC finished their isolation days ago and I feel fine now apart from a lingering cough but still testing negative. Very strange.

Picklesandbeans · 25/01/2022 08:14

So pcr negative, ds 6 now temperature and headache and cold lft negative will get pcr today. Looks like we have a cold whilst all around us people have same symptoms and covid?! Off to work I go!

Dh and dd both came home knackered on Friday, DD had sore throat. Lfts -ve. Full on colds on Sat but -ve lfts so we were put and about because lft said not covid. Both +ve on Sunday.

I did throat swab this morning still -ve but have a headache and slightly scratchy throat.

I have a fit to fly pcr booked for Thursday.
What are my chances?
