Could the vaccine help my long Covid?

Anyone?
I’ve been terrified of having the vaccine and now have been suffering for months with long Covid so now feel I have no choice.
Any positive or negative experiences welcome, thank you

One person I know said it helped tremendously - I think I would do it. I had a post viral illness for years after a bout of flu and I would've tried anything that had a glimmer of helping.

I think it would depend what your long vivid symptoms are. I had Covid last December and was left with extremely high heart rate and random palpitations when walking up the stairs. Since I have had my jabs the palpitations have stopped but I still have a high heart rate. No idea if the jabs had any impact or if it was just time.

My symptoms are really only 2 : complete exhaustion,
I’ve literally slept all day between school runs and then all night for months with just managing the dinner etc of an evening.
I’ve been off work and am so worried I’ll lose my job if I can’t go back.
The other symptom is horrendous back pain which I’m having an MRI for but it started on day 1 of Covid and has never left.
I think I could bear the pain if I wasn’t so knackered all the time though.
I feel like I’ve got flu every single day, that’s the best way to describe it.
I’ll get the jab - at this point I can’t get much worse

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that getting the vaccine before you get Covid may prevent long Covid, or at least alleviate the symptoms, but I'm not sure if it helps once you already have long Covid. In your situation though I don't really see what you have to lose?

You’re right - nothing to lose at all at this point.
Long Covid as so odd for me as I recovered completely and then a month later when massively downhill again and haven’t managed to pick up

Can’t help with your specific question but my ex bf had glandular fever when we were together and took about 2.5/3 years to fully recover from the fatigue so even if the vaccine doesn’t help hopefully time will.

That’s a terrifying thought to feel like this for that long as I’ll 100% lose my job

I thought there was research to show that the vaccine could help long covid. But I don't recall the source, so could have been anecdotes. I can't be certain.

But someone did tell me recently that their long covid disappeared after vaccine.

The mention of a possible “ flare up “ in symptoms have worried me as mentioned in that article however lots of people are reporting long Covid feeling better after a vaccine so I think it’s worth a go!

Didn't it say any flare up (if any) was temporary? Looks worth a try to me

Yep and a flare up but better in the long run would be far better than living like this forever.
No please don’t apologise! I know some really suffer and take a long time to overcome lots of virus’ - it’s just very hard as I have youngish kids and a full time job so my life would be pretty hard going if this goes on much longer but any light at the end of the tunnel is better than nothing!

I also read somewhere the vaccine is supposed to help long covid. Not sure where I read it now though!

I do have a friend whose long Covid improved considerably when she had the vaccines - anecdotal obviously but I don’t think I’ve read anything about it making long Covid worse, so def worth a try!

I had long covid. No sense of smell for almost a year. Had my first jab and I could smell again about a week later. Could have been a coincidence of course, but .....

If it helps slightly with the terrible fatigue or pain I would be over the moon!

Each AZ jab I had last year seemed to push me a little closer to normal. The Pfizer booster, not so much.

I can’t say for sure that my improvements were solely down to the jabs; I’d been ill for over a year before my first one and was slowly getting better anyway, but there did seem to be an acceleration of improvement after each one.

Still not completely back to 100% but fairly confident that I will eventually get there.

Dd1 had long covid, started about a month after she first got covid. Ended up off work for 5 months. She was starting to get better but still very fatigued with lung pain when she had here first vaccine. It made a massive difference and she was getting back to normal. 5 months later and she started to get bad again. Booster jab sorted it out again. She if now going back to the gym 19 months after catching covid. She is 22.

Get the vaccine.

I’m so sorry to hear of other people’s struggles with Covid.
I was very naive to think as a young ish 30 year old with no health conditions I would be okay without the vaccine
I was terrified of the vaccine and then this happened
I won’t be offered AZ due to my age but I guess anything is worth a try at this point!

My daughter found the vaccine really helped her long covid symptoms. She caught Covid in March 2020 and was really ill and basically bed bound for 6 months. After that she was diagnosed with chronic fatigue as a result of covid. She was sleeping up to 20hours a day. A few days after her first vaccine she felt so much better, she got her spark back and has been improving ever since. She's now had 3 jabs. I hope it works the same for you.
