What are you doing with your positive teens?

13yo dd tested positive on Sunday and is still positive today. She’s in her room and only leaves with a mask for the loo or to go to the garden.

There are another 5 of us in the house including a newborn so I’m keen to try to avoid it.

It just seems so mean. She’s not ill and is quite happy on her own. Is everyone else doing the same?

I haven't a positive teen but a positive 10yr old. We're just being with her as normal, however, my husband is avoiding cuddles as more vulnerable. I can understand you wanting to be more careful with a newborn. Maybe go by how well she is coping. So far the other 3 have us haven't tested positive and we are day 5 x

My 11yr old DD is on day 5 and still testing positive. We have sort of distanced ourselves from her, made her work in her room, and on the first two or three days we made her eat in the lounge while we stayed in the kitchen.

Now we're a bit more relaxed as I kind of think we'd have caught it by now if we were going to. I haven't kissed her since Sunday which makes me sad! But I don't really want to catch covid so am vaguely keeping my distance.

Both my kids are positive. One teen and one pre teen. I'm not distancing at all - I'm triple jabbed and while I'm keen to avoid covid, they feel crap and I want to look after them, which incudes cuddles and company as well as giving paracetamol etc.

DS13 tested positive this evening. He won't be isolating from the rest of the house. If it's Omicron then it's so contagious if we're going to get it we'll get it. We're both triple jabbed, and normally fit and well, so not much more we can do. Typical that DS was due his next vaccine on Sunday.

Our teen has had it twice. Both variants. Holed up in his room. Food home cooked taken to his door.. He cares not a jot!!

Didn't isolate them. And we didn't isolate either.

Mine had been tired for a couple of days before her positive test, with hindsight these were covid symptoms. So we figured with those two days, and probably a couple of days before, we’d have caught it already if we were going to. So she didn’t isolate at all.

Thanks all. It’s really interesting what everyone is doing.

We’re day 6 now. No more positives in the house but dd is still a strong positive. She’s quite enjoying being in her room I think! I’m missing her though x

Mine are 12, 10 and 8, so not quite teens and they all tested positive on the same day, while I was negative. I was flitting between two mindsets, part of me was to try and keep them away from me, keep them in masks when out of their rooms, but the other part of me was thinking that if they haven't exposed me to it already, it's inevitable so no point trying to stay separate.

In the end I came down with it 8 days after they did (just as they were coming out of self isolation). So I'd rather have just caught it off them sooner as now I'm going to be stuck in the house for nearly 3 weeks. That could drag on for longer if members of the same household go down with it one after the other rather than together.

It's a matter of when not if with Omicron, so it's less disruptive if the whole household has it at the same time really.

We carried on as normal when ds had it but our house is small it would have been difficult to isolate completely. Like any other teen he spends most time in his room anyway but he joined us to eat meals or watch TV together If he wanted too without wearing a mask, none of us went on to catch it. If teens are happy and coping well staying isolating in a room then that's fine but if they were struggling with it mentally and emotionally then absolutely I strongly disagree with anyone enforcing on their teens.

Mines only 7 so I can't just isolate her from the rest of us.
So far she's the only one positive but she's not poorly so bouncing off the walls.
She's spent the last 5 days closer to me than I've ever known before 🤣 so I'm sure she's trying to infect me lol

I got it as did my 7yo, no attempt at isolation and DH and DD age 4 somehow didn't get it.

Mine were quite happy isolating in their rooms on two separate occasions. We were lucky they were positive when the weather was better though and could eat outside and spend time in the garden. We kept windows open and none of us caught it.

My teen loved isolating in his room! Netflix, his pc, food and drinks brought to his room! He wants covid again. He was quite poorly for 3 days (he has had it previously) but he slept for the majority of that. This time I didn't mask up when I went in his room, but his window was open. No one in the house caught it the second time

If it's bothering your dc that they're alone and you're jabbed, no major health concerns etc I'd say go about business as usual to a degree.

We just carried on as normal. One of us in the house didn’t catch it then a couple of weeks later went back to school (where they had to wear a mask all day) and caught it there straight away 🙄. All of us had barely noticeable colds and hopefully have extra antibodies now at least.

Yes mine festered in his room with lots of devices and screens. Happy as Larry except for the 24 hours he actually felt a bit crap, followed by 9 days of chilling out! I missed him lots though, but it was worth it as he didn't pass it on...

We just carried on as usual, but without kisses and cuddles. None of the rest of us caught it, but I got it about 3 months later and again nobody else in the house caught it from me.

We’ve had covid in the house 4 times since October. None of us have isolated from each other. Six of us share just one bathroom. The first time around DS had it and nobody else caught it even though he shares a bedroom with his 2 brothers. And neither me nor DH have caught it yet at all even though at one point 3 of the kids had it at once. So it is definitely not a given that everyone in the household will get it!
