What is day 1 - isolation confusion Scotland

Hi, child tested positive on Tuesday last week which was their first day of symptoms. T&P said to isolate for 10 days but could end it early if testing negative on days 6/7. Would today be day 7? Completely confused as I know in England the first day of symptoms is day 0, in Scotland we’ve just been told isolate for 10 days from symptoms starting.

Day of test or symptoms is day 0. As such Tuesday is day 7..

Thank you. I thought so too but read an article on BBC news that had some conflicting information about what is day 1 in Scotland. DC has had negative tests all weekend but we wanted to be sure that we weren’t letting them out early!

Hello, in Scotland day 1 is day of positive test or symptoms starting. In England day 0 is day of test. Hence the day 5/6 LF negative required for release is the same as day 6/7 in Scotland...

So if your symptoms started/positive test was Tuesday your Day7 will be today...

Oh and the dates of isolation given in Scotland are until 2359 of that day..so if day 10 is Thursday you can leave isolation on Friday...so confusing!!

Day 1 is day of first symptom or positive test. This might help.

Scotland the day of testing (or symptoms) is day 1, England it is day 0.
