Do all LFTs turn positive if left for an hour

I did a LFT an hour ago. I thought it was negative but now it looks like this. I have a cold and lost my sense of smell but have been negative for the last 3 days. I felt better today but decided to do one to make sure and then looked just now when going to bin it and wondered if this is just what happens to them when left over the normal time

They don't all turn positive after an hour, but the result isn't valid after 30 minutes so it might be worth taking another one.

I did one that looked like that. Tried again straight away and the next test was apparently negative but with a shadowy line. The following morning I got a clear positive.

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 16/01/2022 01:51

Mine never have. I would re-test OP.

Luckymummytoone · 16/01/2022 01:52

My little boys did a few days before he was positive - but that looks like you’ve maybe put too much liquid on?

Jenasaurus · 16/01/2022 01:58

Ok I will test in the morning. I did request a PCR when I lost my sense of smell and it arrived late today so will post that off on Monday. The thing is that all week I have been negative on LFT and my DD who had a cold the week before was
Negative on her LTF (works with children so did LFTs and a PCR to be sure. All negative). She appears to have passed the cold on to me and her boyfriend. Both of us have felt awful but not typical Covid. I had stomach pains, sneezing, blocked nose, sore throat, headache and achy chills. Only recently losing my sense of smell. Although today I smelt bus fumes and was so pleased. Anyway both myself and her boyfriend have repeatedly tested and are negative until this weird one today. I feel bad as although I work from home and have not been anywhere, today I went to London on a packed train and now I worry I have infected people

I hope this is just a faulty test. The line looks fuzzy and it straight so I am hoping I am still negative

I do LFT’s a lot cause of my job and sometimes I don’t put in the bin straight away I have never had one go positive after leaving it for an hour. I’ve never had a positive one at all in fact, so far I’ve not had Covid nor has my DH so I’ve not seen a positive one in real life.

The first positive I saw was my adult DS’s and it looks a lot clearer than this one. I have attached his one. I haven’t had contact with him, he sent me a photo of it but he has just texted me the same as you and told me to do another one

Mine dont, and also do them regularly for work.

Mines not even doing it atm when I do have official PCR tested covid.

But that aside the photo isnt of a positive test. There is no line where the T is. You just have a test there with a load of bogey stuck in it.

The lines on yours and your sons look to be in the wrong place! 🙈

I thought that too. Fingers crossed

That’s odd. They are the flowflex ones. He has to do them for his job. He hasn’t had symptoms except exhaustion. He said he physically couldn’t get out of bed. I wonder if he should also do a PCR. His fiancé is negative and lives with him so it is odd that only he is positive. She works with vulnerable patients released home from hospital so has to test daily too.

Mine did that on Friday after an hour. It looked like a faint wiggly line and the colour had run. I had a PCR test, just in case and it came back negative.

LemonSwan · 16/01/2022 02:13

Your sons is 100% positive.

It might be worth getting a PCR because then it is recorded he has officially had covid. I have made a point of getting mine registered because it may prove useful for travel at a later point.

He registered the lateral flow as positive. You don’t have to do a PCR without symptoms anymore but I may suggest he does so. Would the LFT being registered not count

Thank you. That’s what I am hoping and kind of thought it may be. I mean I am on the mend from the cold so why would I test positive as I start to recover and not before

No doesnt count as LFTs are self reported. Only a PCR positive can be used for natural immunity proof.

FelicityBeedle · 16/01/2022 03:05

If you go to a priority postbox I’m sure they’re collecting PCRs on Sundays, help you get the results quicker

Booklover3 · 16/01/2022 03:29

None of mine have

tapeandglue · 16/01/2022 03:34

Mine always turn positive after 30 minutes.

Never had Covid.

MimiDaisy11 · 16/01/2022 03:39

Faint lines are still counted as positive ( at least on all tests I’ve done). Just thought I’d mention due to some previous comments on thread. But yes best not to trust results after certain time.
