Omicron hair loss

We had what I'm sure is Omicron go through the house from boxing day, today I noticed quite a big patch of hair missing from 8 year olds head, anyone else had any bald patches appear?

My best friend had Covid the Xmas before last, so not Omicron but she did suffer huge hair loss.

It wasn't patchy like that though and did stop falling out, and started growing back about 4 months later.

I wonder if that's alopecia?

Post viral hair loss is a not uncommon reaction to many virus’. My dd had it after having COVID in July - lasted about 4 months.

My son has got 2 patches of alopecia which appeared a few weeks after his 2nd vaccine. He hasn’t had Covid as far as we are aware.

I've had this... have it rather, missing a patch of hair since the booster. Dermatologist thinks its a combination of having the booster, another non-covid vaccine and having a cold at the same time, which caused an immune response causing inflammation that made my hair fall.

Yes apparently alopecia areata is a possible side effect of the covid vaccine

Did they say it should grow back?

That's interesting, I have just had Covid (Omicron) and I noticed more hair coming out with brushing and my hair is drier too. Hopefully this is temporary.

Hi Greenlunchbox - have you heard of other people having this then? It has been news (rather, a shock) to me. The doc says statistically speaking it should resolve within a year. Then he gave me some steroids to rub in & told me if I experience more bald spots to rub it on those too. Which is not what I wanted to hear.

I'm seeing a little bit of peach fuzz returning, but I have had a sore scalp generally so I'm not sure which direction this is headed.

Just stumbled across this and it makes a lot of sense. I've noticed loads of my eyelashes have fallen out recently and hair seems thin. Didn't really make sense as I was working from home for most of Jan so wasn't styling hair/wearing mascara. But I did have covid, maybe that was the reason..
