Our school has request lft for 7 days as cases in all year groups. Guidance as of 7/1/22 on Gov website states there is no need for primary school children to test. Thoughts?

I agree with others, why did you start this thread if you didn't want opinions? In my experience, a lot of parents who couldn't possibly manage to test their kids when there is an outbreak in a school seem to manage it perfectly fine when they want to go on holiday. My Year 5 manages to do them themselves and my Year 1 doesn't like it but knows he has to do it occasionally ie before we visit their grandad. I've just never made a big deal out of it and they just get on with it. Also let's be honest my kids have willing stuck all kinds of things up their nose at some point - lego, toys, fingers - a quick swab round the nostril isn't really 'invasive'.

That guidence refers to asymptomatic testing. I would assume your child is a close contact of a positive case and therefore it's recommended for anyone age 5 and over to test for 7 days.

No i wouldn't do it.

You’re being daft now, no one is ‘judging’ your child but it’s really unclear what you’re trying to gain from this thread. Tips? Solidarity? Experiences? Sign posting?

It’s obvious you’re not on board with testing so… just don’t. See what happens and deal with it if anything does 🤷‍♀️

Am sure there are plenty of countries in Europe where it is compulsory for children to be tested in school. It makes sense. I don't see the issue

My kids don't like it. I have a very sensitive child but he understands the importance and knows its just a few seconds.

WelshRain · 11/01/2022 20:28

Personally I wouldn't if it caused massive drama. I have 3 DC, 2 are fine with testing and the youngest isn't. Literally screaming and running away. On the few times we've managed to test, it's taken 2 parents to pin child down.

Absolutely no problem with flu spray or pre school vaccinations but LFT/ PCR? Horrendous.

Bribery, showing tests on us etc etc does not work. So if this is a condition with school I would ask what they suggest. Doesn't send out a good message about consent really.

Such a selfish lame excuse this !!! Each adult at these get togethers made that choice took that risk .
I’m just trying to get my child a education as best I can and parents like you don’t help why risk a class of 30 kids ! . There’s obviously a good enough reason you have been asked to do this .

Appreciate some kids don’t like the tests , But my child hates fevers and being stuck in the house 8+days isolating , Also sitting in lessons with a bloody mask on but every little helps .

Test kits will be available on line you just have to keep trying if not available. I ordered a box last week and box this week so I CAN test my 2 twice a week as school have asked . You would no doubt be the 1st shouting when class is sent online .

Also in no way calling or judging your child . My son hates needles now after lumber puncture in back associates every needle with that pain and taking him for flu jab last night was hard work, he missed the nazel at school so needle it was .
We got there in the end it benefits him hopefully and helps with the spread of flu . He was quite relieved afterwards as it wasn’t that bad and I’m hoping he’s the same next week with covid jab .
