My eldest DS bought home a virus that caused him to have a mild fever for 2 days. He was tired for a few days and slept whenever feverish. Didn’t really have any other symptoms. On day 1 of symptoms I did a lateral flow on him, but he wouldn’t let me swab throat so just did nose and it came back negative. I tried to book a pcr but it was impossible. As this was the first day of the Xmas hols we decided to not bother with testing and just isolate for 10 days instead.
Approx 4-5 days later my youngest (2 years old) came down with a mild fever, runny nose and became fussy. Fever lasted 3-4 days. He also acted more sleepy than usual. I didn’t do a lateral flow on him as he’s just too young. Once again couldn’t get a pcr either.
Anyway whilst my baby was ill, I also became poorly. I was so busy dealing with my 2 boys I didn’t bother testing. I was ill for 3-4 days too. My symptoms were: hot/cold flushes, blocked stuffy nose, sore throat, reduced taste and random weird leg cramps.
Anyway, fast forward to end of Xmas hols (7-8 days after I came down with cold symptoms) I decided to do a lateral flow. I got a faint positive. Visible within 30mins, but quite faint. I managed to book a pcr and that came back negative. I did another lateral flow and once again faint positive. I continued getting faint positives with lateral flows for 3 more days and now they are finally negative.
Does it sound like we had covid?
Can you get a negative pcr if viral load is low (as was mildly ill) and you test after more than a week from start of symptoms.
Lots of people seem to be getting negative pcrs after faint positive lfts. Wonder what’s going on? If it hadn’t been for muscle cramps and off sense of taste, I wouldn’t have thought of covid. Also I test regularly for work and have never had a faint second line on Lfts.
