Anyone else get false positive LFTs? Worried about the new rules' impact on time off work

DH repeatedly gets false positive LFTs (later negative PCRs). This is the fourth time now, and we are really fed up. Each time it requires a couple of days off work while he waits for the PCR results. It has happened pretty much every month since October.

He is triple jabbed and has never had Covid (that we know of!).

However, from next week, if he gets a positive LFT while asymptomatic, he is presumed to have Covid and will have to have a week off work.

But clearly, the odds are that these positive will be wrong!

He is a key worker and taking one week off every month isn't sustainable. He has to do LFTs twice weekly and provide proof of them to work, so simply not doing them isn't an option.

Has this been happening to anyone else? What's the plan??

I've had positive LFTs followed by negative PCRs on a number of occasions, weeks apart that sort of thing. Also every time I've had a positive I've followed up with another 1 (or more) very quickly afterwards and those have been completely negative. Never had two positives in a day.

I do worry there's something sinister going on the at makes the line come up!

*going on that

I'm so happy to see this! I've been living abroad this year but took a box of flowflex with me and every single one of them I've taken have been positive (since October) but none from testing centres have been! (except when I had COVID in late November) It's been massively interfering with my life in general as I've been in and out of isolation for months while no one else around me has even had a single positive test! I've done a ridiculous number of tests throughout this pandemic, as I very much believe in testing, so I don't think I'm doing every single one wrong?

There has to be something wrong with these flowflex but that doesn't explain why it's not all of us!!

I need to follow this, because DS had a similar experience (all on Flowflex, not other brands)

Hi- I have had the same problem with my daughter. She has had 5 positive LFts since November, all with negative PCRs. This morning another positive LFT, so another PCR. If we go by the new rules, she would be permanently isolating!
I dont know what to do about it to be honest 🤷🏻‍♀️

AnaM2020, when your DD got the negative PCR were her LFT still +ve. My eldest got a negative result today but LFT are still + ve!

Me too, pretty much always positive on FlowFlex, stronger lines in the morning than later in the day. I've had several PCRs, all negative. I spoke to 119 and they took quite a few details (bar codes etc) and confirmed it was a known issue, were looking into it and recommended I use a different brand going forward, I also reported on the yellow card scheme.

I'm negative on all other brands.

AnaM2020 · 11/01/2022 12:43

Yes, the ones she did in November were still positive after the negative PCR. Definitely looks like it is an issue with flow flex. I have been advised to use different tests on her so going to try and get some from the pharmacy as the ones they send our always seem to be flowflex!
